As I arrive at the town of Umbrosia, I search for Abra's Novelty Store. It's dark out and all the street lights cast shadows across the street. When I finally find the shop, I run towards it. My legs grow weary from exhaustion. My vision is blurred and I don't see the door open.
Whack!
"Ugh! Move out of the way!" Someone shouts at me. I quickly say sorry and step back.
"No way! Is that the freaky girl?" A girl with golden brown hair speaks up.
The dark haired girl beside her shoves her elbow at the brunette.
"Mary be quiet! Sorry to interrupt you. My name's Lola. These are Lizzy and Mary." Lola motions towards the two girls at her side.
"Shadowi," I whisper.
"Oh so you know us. That's great....well we'll just be on our way....bye." The three girls walk away giggling. They step into a shadow and disappear. I check my surroundings once and then I quickly enter the store.
"Sorry we're closed. Leave please." A voice calls out from the back of the store.
"Abra, it's me, An." I walk towards the back.
"An? I don't know anybody by the name of An." A wiry man appears from a stack of old newspapers. As I walk around to meet him halfway, he gasps.
"Oh its you Annie! You should've told me you were stopping by. Gee, its been a while since I last saw you. You've grown haven't you?" Abra walks around me and then asks the question that I've been dreading to answer, " Where's Joseph? Is he around here? Joseph! Are you here!?" I walk slowly to where Abra stands. I gather up my courage and speak softly to Abra, "He is dead Abra. The vampires got him."
I walk towards a corner and slump down. After finally saying the truth I felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I curl into a ball and let the darkness cover me like a blanket. I'm safe. I'll worry about everything tomorrow. Right now I need sleep. Sleep...which soon will become my worst enemy.
The last thing I remember before drifting off was the sound of a scream in the distance and a terrifying laugh. I smile as I let my mind wander to thoughts of torturing the souls of all those who will block me from reaching my goal...finding my parents.
