As the sunlight drifted across the room I noticed that I was wrapped in a soft blue blanket. While I sat up I realized that I wasn't in the shop. Not anywhere I recognized. I was on the floor and beside me was a crib. That's when I found out where I was. My old room!
I stood up carefully and shook my head slightly to recover from a headache I had. I looked around and saw that I wasn't alone.
"Seems to me like you've had a rough night." The woman before me was as graceful as I could ever remember.
"Mom!" I run towards her for a hug, but I just drift through her. I turn around and see that she's walking to the crib. Oh right. This was when I was a baby.
I walk back to the crib and look into it. I see a collage of images before it stops and I see a beautiful baby girl. Me.
I see my mother bend down and hold the three year old version of me. The memory pains me because it reminds me of the betrayal and lies that I committed.
I walk away and wander around the house a bit then I tell my conscious that I want to leave. It's usually easy to do this, but today there seems to be something holding me back and forcing me to stay here.
I start to panic, but I calm myself down and walk back to my room. I see my mother on the rocking chair, singing to the baby. Everything seems alright, but then again there's something...off. I suddenly notice that the song my mom is singing isn't one I recognize."Slowly close your eyes
Then you'll realize
That the world is full of lies.
Slowly go to sleep
Then you'll hear her weep
She will show the way
To where the secret lays..."My mom stops and walks towards a velvet box sitting comfortably in between two book shelves. From the box she pulls out a slim piece of paper and heads back to the chair.
She rocks the chair and starts singing to the baby again.
"...There you'll find a king
Who ran away from home
Help him find the ring
That leads you to a dome. She'll be waiting on a log
Through the mist and through the fog.
Lastly take care for her last breath..."
Tears start forming in the corners of my mother's eyes. She choked out a sob and I wish I could just comfort her. It looked like she was going to stop, but then she said, "No I have to keep going...for you Melody..." I then catch a glimpse of the paper in my mother's hand. It's not paper it's a photo! A million questions about who Melody is and what's in the photograph stream through my mind, but my mother continues singing and I strain to hear every word she says."L-l-lastly take care for her last b-breath....
Could also mean your death...."Her words slowly fade away as I am sucked into complete darkness.
