Luka. Luka. Mai had to admit, it was a fitting name. With his blue eyes and his dark hair, he had been charming and social. Everything she did not need in her life. She huffed as she finished her small dinner and looked around her home. It was simple, with wooden furnishings and candles placed in strategic areas. It was also achingly lonesome.

Mai shook the thought away and focused on her dinner, eating quietly. Slowly, without her consent, her thoughts drifted back to Luka. A smile threatened to dance across her lips at the thought of seeing him again. She shouldn't be so excited, and yet the idea of speaking to him caused her stomach to tighten.

When the day came to meet with him by the water, she almost didn't leave her home. Her excitement was slowly turning to fear; fear that he knew her past, that he'd asked a villager about her and hadn't liked what he'd heard. It took some time, but she eventually started for the location, careful to keep her hood up. Luka was already there when she arrived, stroking the nose of his horse.

"You came!" He exclaimed as she approached, bringing her own half smile to her face. He took a step towards her, before seeming to collect himself.

"Of course. Did you honestly think I wouldn't?" Mai kept her tone playful, slowly pushing her hood off. His smile seemed to widen a bit as she moved to sit on a nearby log.

"I must admit, I was worried you wouldn't. After all, most women do not meet strangers in the forest." Luka chuckled and took a seat next to her. He was closer than she'd thought he would be, and she slid back just a bit.

"Well,I am here. Can I ask why you wanted to meet again?" She tipped her head curiously.

"How about a name? I'd love to have something to call you, after all." He leaned a bit closer, and she was momentarily struck by his gaze.

"Mai. My name is Mai." He nodded slowly, studying her. Mai shook herself from her daze, clearing her throat and looking away. Her hands smoothed over her leggings.

"Mai." The sound of him saying it gave her a thrill she hadn't expected. "I like it."

"I'm glad you approve, sir." She fought with her feelings, trying to regain control of them. He gave his own chuckle, and she immediately wanted more.

"Please, just Luka." His eyes shone, and she gave a slow nod. Perhaps being with Luka...wouldn't be so bad.
