Chapter 10

6:34 pm

The sunlight beamed onto their skins, a tingly sensation flowed all around their bodies. The very few trees that planted themselves across the fields swayed, dancing along with the breeze. The grassland appeared very plain yet adventurous. This was where the journey had begun.

After deciding to help the group on their journey to this town, they walked through deep underground mines that had been left there by old miners. A few more hundred meters and they had finally reached the end. Above them looked like the top of a well. The ladder that still stood firmly against the cobblestone aged a bit, as there appeared to be rust.

Climbing it, however, was as easy as climbing normal staircases.

"S-So, where do we begin?" Candice asked, her fingers fiddling with each other. "Well," Danté answered, "If we follow this map here, we'll be able to get there in no time." Candice took quick glances at the map once in a while, then her eyes laid into Dantés.

Those eyes were something she never thought would have had some special abilities. All Candice wanted to assume at the time was that they were important to say the least. But, she only wondered why Danté had not spoken to her about them. Did something bad happen to his eyes? Was he born that way? What magic did they possess? Although those questions tortured her inner mind, she believed those questions would have to be saved for later.

"This trip's gonna take at least a few hours of walking," Kai mentioned, a giddy smile glued onto his face, "If we're going to walk nonstop."
'Was that really something to be happy about?' Candice thought, not raising her head. "But we will rest sometimes right? Please tell me we are!" Isabel, the youngest, cried, pulling onto Kai's shirt.

"Yeah yeah, we will." He smiled, patting Isabel's head. "Or, we could get this stupid quest over and done with." Rainé interrupted, crossing her arms. Everyone looked at her, raising their brows. "Here, let me put sense into this. If that girl isn't the key, we obviously didn't need to start this quest in the first place."

"But she is the key, Rainé. Come on, this quest won't come to a harsh end! Just think on the bright side, won't cha?" Kai smiled, punching Rainé's arm playfully. Rainé rolled her eyes. "She better be." Was the last sentence that came out of her mouth.

Candice sighed. This quest, this town, it was a little too much for her to handle. Each step was getting closer to their destination and yet, she couldn't help but feel this scared feeling raise inside of her. She looked down in her left hand; the hand that was holding the leather book.

"This book will help you. Just promise me you won't open it yet. Not until the right time is there."

She held onto it tighter. 'Why Danté..? What is this book..? Why am I waiting. W-When is it the right time...?' These questions danced within her mind, curiosity lingering. Holding this book was scary enough but being asked what it was or what it was for was even scarier.

Candice's POV

I walked back to where I had slept last night, picking up the book Danté had given me. I dusted the cover and held it in my arms. I had already agreed to help the bunch after a while of thinking.

"What's that?" I looked around to see Miriam looking at the book I was holding. I had no idea what to say. Was I suppose to tell her what it was? Danté didn't tell me anything! This had me freaked out. "U-Um... W-Well, it's a book..!" I told her, hoping she'd leave after hearing that.
