"Jennie, stop!" I exclaim. She gives me a childlike laugh in response. "Hey, give me that!"
I try to snatch the polaroid from her hand but she keeps it out of my reach.
"Come on! What's a wedding without a photo?"
"You didn't have to take a candid shot though. You should've just told me. I would've fixed my hair or something."
She takes a closer look at the newly-developed photo, still keeping it out of my reach lest I attempt to snatch it once again from her hand. "Aww. My wife looks so cute." She stares at the polaroid for a few more seconds before she averts her gaze back to me.
Wife. I love being Jennie's wife.
Even if it isn't real... Even if it isn't for long, I love being her wife. I love being married to my best friend.
"Let's take another photo," I tell her.
Jennie arches a brow at me. She rests her chin on her hand, elbow on the wooden table that separates us. "Really? Don't you hate being in front of a camera?"
She isn't wrong though. I've always been camera shy. I hate taking too much pictures because I get self-conscious.
But today, I'd like to make an exception.
"Not today. Today, I'd like to make memories with my wife. I'd like to remember as much about today as possible. Besides, you said so yourself: what's a wedding without a photo?"
"Okay. Come sit next to me then," she retorts as she gestures her head towards the vacant space next to her.
She watches me playfully under her long lashes as I transfer my chair to the empty space next to hers.
"We don't have to look all lovey-dovey in every photo, right?" I ask hesitantly as she sets the timer of her instant camera.
"No, not really. Why? Do you wanna look like enemies or something in our pictures?" she teases with a smirk. I no longer have time to respond though, as she says in an instant, "Okay, 5 seconds. Get ready."
She puts her arm around me, gently pulling me closer to her. Jennie's a natural in taking pictures. She looks great in every photo. She doesn't really have to do much other than look at the camera and smile.
As for me, I've always been awkward in front of cameras. I guess that explains why I don't have that many pictures.
Even in family gatherings, I always end up offering to take their pictures for them just to avoid having to pose or smile for the cameras.
But like I've told Jennie, I'm willing to make an exception today because I'd like to make memories with her. I'd like to remember this day the most.
As soon as the film prints, she snatches it from the instant camera.
"Let me see!" I whine.
"Me first!" she retorts as she hugs the film to her chest, hiding it from view.
