━━━  bowling alley victims !
alongside being a bitch
it's one of my infamous
qualities.

The loud noise of bowling pins slamming against the ground filled her workplace. The speakers blasting the Billboard Top 100 barely could even be heard over the chatter scattered all around. Which reminded her to make a complaint to her manager after her shift about the horrendous choice of music. She could hear all cheers of excitement and groans of dissatisfaction from every bowling lane blaring in her ears.

Then she glared up at the time shining on one of the TVs placed right above one of the lanes displaying the family of fours stats, it was only 9:32 PM. She huffed causing the strands framing her face to blow while her shoulders slouched down leaving her no energy to finish her shift.

Zara grabbed the shoes off the counter beside her and started to untie them. This was one of her work tasks she hated because some middle-aged woman would always come in on the afternoons and tie the bowling shoe laces like there was no tomorrow. She regretted cutting her nails the night before since she was struggling to even unwrap one lace.

As a coworker of hers walked by from the break room and witnessed her poor attempt at maintaining her cold demeanor, he couldn't help but offer a sympathetic comment. "Yikes, they got you on shoe duty?" he remarked, a hint of teasing in his voice.

Despite their banter and playful jabs at each other, Alex was arguably one of her favorite coworkers. Being a freshman in college, studying journalism, perhaps unfairly, labeled as a "pussy major" — her words. Alex Baker was a Beacon Hills graduate, former athlete, and future journalist...

Their ongoing playful rivalry had become an amusing part of their dynamic, and she never missed an opportunity to playfully mock him about it. Over the past six months of working together, they had developed a genuine friendship, — which is a premature title for it. The busy nature of Alex's college schedule made it a rarity for them to share shifts, which made these lucky moments when they did, all the more special. In those instances, the overpowering scent of nacho cheese, cleaning products, and stale beer seemed almost tolerable.

She secured a stray piece of her hair behind her ear. "I know the assistant manager jackass over there is really on a power trip." She exclaims pointing towards him and talking to the new employee he was training behind the food stand. The guy just got promoted to assistant manager no less than a week ago and began acting like he had full control of the place. Zara made one snarky comment and then he put her behind the cashier cleaning shoes and counting bills.

The doe-eyed boy responded, "Wait until you see the new girl."

"What's her deal?"

"More like what isn't her deal? She is as quiet as a mouse, I swear — thought I went tone-deaf talking to her. And she has a little case of kleptomania. I totally saw her snatch up one too many sugar packets and coffee lids in our break room and stuff em' straight in her pocket."
