"I'm sure you remember Frost mentioning a girl who had the same parasite as you."

"Kind of." Dylan responded to the voice in his head.

"Well, that girl was kidnapped."

Dylan turned over in his bed. "Oh no." He said without much interest.

"What? You don't care?"

"Not really. What can I do about it?" Dylan responded.

The voice seemed to be in disbelief. "A lot. Here, talk to her."

Dylan stood straight, somewhat confused but leaving the voice to do its thing. He soon felt a new connection, like the one he had with the voice, but this voice was different. It was the sound of a little girl; she was humming a quiet tune. She sounded scared and was shivering. Dylan lay there, listening for a second, until he heard the first voice speak up.

"Amelia, I'm back. I've reached symbiosis with Dylan."

The humming stopped. Dylan felt chills go down his back. He looked around his room just to make sure that the girl was really only in his head.

"Please come help me. They've done something to me, I'm not strong enough." The girl said. She went quiet again, tired.

The voice responded, "We will."

Dylan felt the connection disappear, and it was back to just him and the voice.

"That was... fast." Dylan said, stunned.

"Her name's Amelia Kirk. She was infected three years ago. Remember what I said about different connections? Well, she has a physical one. I guess she mostly kept her abilities under cover until now, but like I said earlier, she was kidnapped recently."

"Have you contacted the police?"

"I've been alive only for a couple of days and I am permanently confined to your body. No. Besides, no one even knows she exists. Her family apparently lives deep in the forest, essentially cut off from civilization."

"They could still do something about it." Dylan shut his eyes. He didn't want to get into this mess. The voice continued, "You could too. We can do things together that you would never imagine."

"Really?" Dylan asked, uninterested.

The voice didn't say anything.

"Listen, we can talk about this in the morning." Dylan said, already knowing what his answer would be to the voice's unavoidable question. "I need sleep. I've had a big day."

"Fine." The voice said. He waited to see if anything else would be said, but Dylan only turned over to his nightstand and looked in the drawer, wondering if anything of interest was inside.

Dylan felt the voice's connection disappear.

'So, he can go away' Dylan thought; the voice had been with him the whole time after the test at FAC. He was finally alone and drifted off into sleep.

Dylan heard his alarm clock beeping, but it took him a minute to convince himself to get out of bed. The clock told him that he had gotten over nine hours of sleep, but he might as well have gotten none. He felt just as tired as when he got into bed. Either way, Dylan forced himself out of his bed and wandered towards the door of his room. He turned the knob, but before he could even take a step out, he heard voices in the hallway. They sounded scared, so Dylan stopped and pressed his ear up against the door to try to make out what they were saying.
