V2.
Almost all the Vocaloids for the version had been released.
Most had a decent amount of advertisement, making sure the public knew of them.
So most already had some fans.
However, most people didn't notice when one of them was released, because said Vocaloid had no advertisement.
And if that wasn't a recipe for disaster, then what made it a recipe for disaster was the impending release of the Kagamine Appends.
So there the forgotten Vocaloid sat, hoping that someone would notice he was there.
Always hoping, in spite of impossible odds.
And yet, nobody noticed.
Not even other Vocaloids.
Not even his own company.

May 2014

POV: 3rd Person (limited)

V3 was almost done.
Only a handful of Vocaloids remained to be released during V3's run.
...It had been about 3 years.
3 years since a disastrous release.
No advertisement, and very few fans.
And yet, this lonely Vocaloid had a spark of hope.
See, he had been nervous about talking to one of the newcomers, and never could work up the courage to introduce himself.
Until one day.

"Okay, calm down, you can do this."
Trying to keep his confidence, walking closer.
"...Um... h-hello." An awkward tone.
"Well, that could have gone way better."
"Hi."
Shock.
Well, in his defense, not even the fans expected that sort of voice.
Most were expecting a different voice, that seemed to fit the style of this newcomer.
"...Um..."
"...Aren't you that one V2 that never got any advertisement?"
"What???"
The newcomer... knew?
"I heard about it when I got here. Apparently, such a thing was otherwise unheard of."
"...Oh."
Though the newcomer seemed... distant, as if slightly closed off (or kuudere, you never know), she seemed... almost empathetic for the lonely Vocaloid's situation.

At first, they were naught but acquaintances.

December 2014

4 years.
"Looks like another lonely anniversary."
He had always been lonely, with only himself to celebrate each passing anniversary.
Always watching from afar as others had people to celebrate with.
"Hey."
A sudden voice brought the lonely Vocaloid out of his thoughts.
"You were zoning out, apparently."
"O-oh, sorry."
"It's okay."
An offer... of a cupcake???
"I had some leftovers from when I helped with other anniversary celebrations recently. It's not fresh, but it's better than nothing."
...This was the first anniversary he had where someone else noticed.
"...Thank you."
"You're welcome."
The duo got to talking, finding companionship despite loneliness.

Over time, their bond strengthened.
Slowly, the duo found many friends.
Such friends as a memelord, a peculiar kid who has a pet bird, and even one of the Vocaloids who (accidentally) ended up overshadowing the once-lonely Vocaloid.
Eventually, even feelings of love began to blossom from the duo's bond.
One thing was certain:
There was yet hope.
