The Diseased were coming out of their houses, all of them. All these years, all these years, night-time had become the time of the humans. Only at night we had opportunity to be outside, to live. During the days, the world belonged to the Diseased, and whoever was out there then, would be taken. It was supposed to be a very harmless death. They would close in on you, touch you, and you would lose all thoughts, your soul, everything that basically made you human. You would forget everything, and after a few nights, there was no difference between you and them.
I wasn't sure though if that really was how it worked. Perhaps you wanted to scream in pain before you died, but couldn't open your mouth. It didn't matter, anyway. It didn't change anything. Night belonged to us, the living, and indescribable rage soared through my body seeing all those Diseased come out of their houses, their faces lifeless as ever, taking away our space. Both men that I was with had already been surrounded, and I knew there was no more help for them. I turned, and I ran. I ran, and the buildings in the streets, abandoned and damaged, I barely saw them. I doubted I'd ever run this hard in my life. Somewhere, somewhere in me, I knew it was too late. Everywhere, the Diseased came out, turning their eyes on me. There was nowhere to run, they had surrounded me, and they came from every street, every door, every alley. I'd assumed more people like us were still alive, but the Diseased came from everywhere. The situation must be worse than I had realized. I turned my back against a wall as I saw lifeless eyes approaching. The last thing I saw were those eyes, and just before they touched me, I saw a spark of hope. Then they touched me, and I tried to open my mouth to scream. I screamed and screamed, until the black took me.
