Seventeen; Tomorrow...
__________

I take a stiff step down the stairs, mom paces back and forth with her phone glued to her ear. She doesn't seem to notice that I've tripped over one stair and crashed into a coffee table nearby.

"Uh-huh...alright...I'll call you when I'm ready." She puts the phone down on the kitchen counter and takes a sip of her coffee. With her back facing me I take the opportunity to tiptoe down to the hall to retrieve my laptop.

"Nice day wasn't it G?"

I stop in my tracks...shoot

"It was, so exhausting how was your day mom?any surprises any rush for the sales? Are you having problems with your presentations?"

She giggles and turns to me."As a matter of fact, there was a surprise,  but I'll wait till tomorrow morning to break it to you." I look at her questioningly but she stares back with a wide grin.

"Why not now, is...is it a good surprise? It's a person right? I got a puppy?"

She shakes her head and reaches for the mug.

"It's a person alright, but it's best if we shift things to tomorrow. I too am a bit surprised but I'm taking it all in." She sighs once she gulps the rest of her coffee.

"Fine, tomorrow. I won't rush you while you take it all in." I grab my laptop from the sofa and make my way to the stairs.

"Oh and by the way Fay's mom called..."she trails off.

"Really , what did Meg say?" She waves it off and says "tomorrow." I growl stomping my feet otherwise stairs while she sings tomorrow from Annie.

The scent of scrambled eggs whip my nostrils as my phone buzzes on the bathroom sink.

"Heya." Heath slurs  once I pick the call. "Hi..." I reply rather suspicious of his tone. "Lemme guess, you just had your first kiss with Krista?" I ask and he pauses a bit.

"Aha! No wonder you're so sunny-"

"Hold your horses Hudson, it would take a forever before Krista and I kiss."

"And why is that?"  I place the phone on speaker while reaching for my hairbrush in the mirror cupboard.

"Because krista takes forever to apply her lip gloss, and she would probably order a group of paparazzi to get her best side."

I giggle a bit  while trying to bush down my hair. " You are so dramatic!"

"I'm not!" He retorts childishly.

"Genna breakfast is ready!" Mom calls from the kitchen. "My mom just called, see you at school." I end the call and make my way to the kitchen.

"Hi mom."

"Hey, have a seat." She passes the plate of scrambled eggs and bacon to me.

"About Fay's mom..." she trails off digging into her own plate of scrambled eggs. I look up from mine."Yeah, what did she say?"

"Well, you and Fay are not talking. Fay is hurt you know?"

"So am I,  he told me that I was as self centered as dad..." I look away picking at my eggs with the fork.  My mom sighs loudly." About your dad..."

"Mom, it's fine it made me realise the person dad was that I couldn't see. Spending most of my free time day dreaming that he would show up bit here we are. Just the two of us." She opens her mouth to speak but the doorbell cuts her.

"I'll go get it." I hop off the chair and make my way to the door.

Maybe it's Heath. He's really taking this brotherly act seriously.

Once I open the door, in shock, I look over to my mom who looks more confused than I am.

"Genna!" I'm engulfed into two large arms that are covered with a whipping scent of men's cologne. "Dad?" I mumble with my arms to my sides still frozen in shock.

Someone tell me this isn't the surprise my mom was talking about...
