13. dealing with disaster

----- 2/11/18 police station -----
---No POV---

Anne was sat across the room from Anna, Catherine and him. She refused to look at anyone, instead she looked down at her hands. The police had asked questions, her answers were as short as she could make them. She just wanted to go home.

"Jane, why aren't you living with any adults?" Jane looked down, not wanting to remember it.

"Kat's mother died when she was young, her father left out of grief, leaving kat with my family." Jane said, making sure kat was distracted with something else first.

"And Anne and yourself?" The officer asked again, trying to get more information.
"After Anne got diagnosed with ADHD, her parents decided they didn't want to deal with her, also leaving her with us. And me, well... My brother Thomas lives in northern Ireland for  university, and the rest of my family went with him. I haven't seen them since, they've cut off all contact.."
Jane mumbled the last sentence, just loud enough to hear.

Anne was standing, walking back and forth. Catherine stood up from her chair and wrapped the shorter girl in a hug.
"Hey, Anne. Try to calm down, your alright." Anne shook her head.
"Can't... What if I have to leave my family? What if Dan can't take us in?"

Catherine took a small step back, her hands on Anne's shoulders.
"If he can't take you in, I will." Anne shook her head again, then reminded Catherine that she wasn't old enough.
"I know I'm not 18, I won't be until the 15th. But I'm sure my parents wouldn't mind to be the legal Guardians of the three of you until Jane's old enough to properly adopt you herself."

"Adopted? By your parents?" Catherine laughed a little and shook her head, "no, silly, fostering. Just until Jane's 18. Okay?" Anne nodded, smiling slightly.

"Okay. Good." Anne replied, "like being taken in by family friends or something, right?" Catherine nodded in response.

"Remember Bo, this is only if Daniel can't take you in." Anne nods and the pair sit down.
Anne looks over to Anna and Tudor who are sitting across the room from eachother, glaring. They're both handcuffed, no doubt about it, it's to stop them from fighting again.
Next to each of them is an officer, making sure they don't move towards eachother.

Kat looks up from her phone to see Anna like this, she stands up and walks over. The taller of the two notices the girl Infront of her and she looks up.
"Hi kitty. You alright?" Kat nods and sits beside her friend.

"Why'd you do it?" Anna looked over at kat in slight confusion, "fight him, I mean. Why?" Anna looked down at the handcuffs around her wrists.
"He hurt my friends. So I hurt him back. He broke Cathy's arm. He hurt you... Alot. I care about you Kitty. I know I don't say this enough, but without you, I don't know what I'd do with myself. I care about you more than anything else. I don't want to see you get hurt again."
Kat frowned, "I don't want you hurting anyone on my behalf." The youngest sits next to her.

"I can hurt them myself Anna. I'm old enough." Anna giggled slightly.
"Oh really? How old are you?" Anna questioned and kat smiled proudly.
"Almost 14." Anna laughed.
"Kit, my goodness. I'm 14 and I've been training for a long time. I don't think a 13 year old can fight of someone 4 years older than them."

Kat faked a frown, "hey! I'm strong. Really strong!" Anna smiled.
"Oh really? I bet you can't do 10 push ups." She said nothing as she stood up from her chair, went down to the floor and not only proceeded to do 10 pushups, but 25. She would have done more if people weren't looking at her.

She sat back in her seat, flipping Anna off as she did.
"Was that necessary?" Anna questioned.
"It's always necessary"
They shared a laugh.
"That's fair.

----- Jane's pov -----

Daniel walked into the room and over to me. I asked him what was wrong and he explained. When he finished I was in a state of denial and panic.

"No...no... What do you mean?" I manage to say, just above a whisper.

"I'm sorry. The station won't let me. Isn't there anyone else who would be able to?" I shook my head and he hesitated before speaking, ".. hey, why don't you ask Catherine? I'm sure she wouldn't mind, plus she seems to have taken a liking to Anne." I had no words. I didn't know how to respond to any of that. Especially the bit about my cousin.

"..okay." Dan nods and calls Catherine over. When she comes over he explains the situation.

"Oh, I talked about this with Anne. It was a back up plan I turn 18 in 13 days, but I don't really know if I will personally be able too. But I can talk to my parents." Catherine pulls out her phone and talks to her parents. After a few minutes she hands the phone to Daniel.

"....no, she's not 18..... Technically they can't..... Fine I'll talk to the officers...... Yeah sure. It'll be fine." He handed the phone back to Catherine who went over to the other side of the room.

Daniel went over to the officers and started discussing whatever Catherine's parents had told him.

I sit for a while mainly just on my phone messaging Cathy or reading any book that wasn't utterly boring.

After about 15 minutes, Daniel comes back over. "Good news Jane. You and your cousins can continue life as usual as long as you allow monthly inspections on your living situation from professionals."

I finally got a positive side to this situation, sure the monthly check up wasn't ideal but at least she got to keep her house, her life, and most importantly her cousins.
She told the news to Anne and kat who weren't all too thrilled about the inspection either but where rather happy to continue on as normal.

They got the issue with Henry sorted. He got a date for a trial about Cathy's arm. sadly, they couldn't do anything for kat, but she seemed happy with her life, they didn't want to put the stress of court on her, they agreed that she was still too young to deal with that kind of stress.
The 2 mainly involved in the fight, Anne and Anna, had to pay a fine, and where lucky to not have to stay the night. But it was clear that the pair where most definitely grounded for quite a while. I already know that Anne is grounded for a month. It would have been longer if she hadn't been fighting for justice and if it hadn't been Henry.

After all of this, maybe just maybe
Dealing with disaster
Can't be too bad with people around to help.
