Your heart was pumping fast and your breath was becoming short. You sucked in fast and deep breaths every other second, running for you life and trying not to trip over the vines and gunk that littered the ground of everywhere you stepped. Everything had a dark red glow that hurt your eyes, but you had nothing of any other color to look at other than your clothes. You wanted to stop and rest. Cry, even. But you couldn't. Not when some demon from the depths of hell itself was after you. The only thing keeping you going was adrenaline.
And her.
The thought of her innocent mind and smile was what kept you living every day, even if she wasn't yours to have. At this point, you were okay with that as long as you got to live.
You turned your head back for just a second to see if you'd ditched that monster. You didn't see him, so you stopped to catch your breath. You sucked in intoxicated air, trying to figure what the hell was happening. One second, you were with Mike, El, and Will in the van, and the other, you're in what you can only assume is the Upside Down, yet you never physically made your way there. You decided that this has to be happening in your mind, so you must be able to control it. You closed your eyes, thinking of a time that you were most happy. You automatically knew when that was: It was time you, El, and Max went shopping. You opened your eyes, and all of a sudden you were there.
"Holy shit," you said, letting out a breath. You looked around yourself, taking notices of the shops, looking for particular ones that you used to love. You found Scoops Ahoy fairly easily, as it was easily in your top favorites. Steve and Robin used to work there.
You walked inside the shop, walking behind the counter and opening up where the ice cream was at. They were halfway empty, scoop marks left freshly in there. You grabbed the scooper and a cone, getting a chocolate one. You agreed to getting chocolate the specific day El came here while she got vanilla and Max got strawberry. That way, she could try all three of the most common flavors. You swore to yourself that you'd bring El there more often and give her the chance to try all the delicious flavors (maybe as a way to score yourself a date but more of a fun day for her), but you never had the chance. Mike and her mended their relationship just before she moved away with Mama Joyce.
You sighed and tried to focus on the happy part of the memory. Besides, if you could find a way back to her, you would be able to give her as much ice cream as she could hold in and as much as you could buy. You would tell her how much you love her before it was too late.
"But that'll never happen."
The words almost passed your own lips, but someone else took them away from you. You snapped your head up, looking at the monstrous red creature in front of you. He was grinning evilly, making his way around the counter towards you. You looked around, but it seemed you had no where to go.
Finally, your eyes landed on the tiny doors Robin used to flip open all the time, usually by a comment with the word "dingus." You dived for the small space, intending to run towards the theatre to make an escape, but before your chest could fully be out of it, you felt sharp nails dig into your skin, pulling you back from the only hope you had left. The creature forced you on your feet and pushed you against the wall with his powers. You felt pressure on your head begin to form as he continued to grin at you. Your limbs began to be forced in the opposite way natural, but you couldn't see none of it happening. It felt completely real, but it wasn't visible.
Using your final breath, you uttered the only thing that you truly lived for anymore: "El..."
Then everything went black.
