"Now that it's out of the way. Miss Desalo, we still have plenty more to discuss," His voice was cheerful from the start up until to now. His smile was like a mosquito, I wanted to slap it off.
All I did was close my eyes for a few seconds and open them. Now I was put down on a chair, with a table in front of me and the unknown man standing on top of it. I felt like a puppet in this room, wherever I was.
"Am I going to die?" I still didn't know what was going on.
Where am I? What am I doing? Who even am I?
"You're already dead, the little clip we watched should've made you connect all the dots,"
Of course I died, it was over for me. My first kiss, the first person to hold, only for them to kill me on the same day. I left no mark before leaving, nor did I erase anything that could be used against me while I'm deceased.
"As for the guidelines, the subject must go through a lifetime quota in order to achieve a prize at the end,"
His words snapped me back from my thoughts.
"What do you mean quota? I never agreed to any of this," I had enough tasks in the real world, I had enough.
He raised an eyebrow.
"You were a subject in the ritual, the party? The subject is supposed to meet a requirement to get what they want,"
Flashes of candles burning ran through my mind, clicking in my mind like a punch through the gut.
"You got the wrong person, I never agreed to any of that, I was only dragged in,"
"Child, that's the point, you were cursed the moment you stepped in the room. Of course you were dragged in it,"
It wasn't fair, I never did anything to anyone nor did I ask to get murdered.
"Who even are you? Why do you have the right to tell me what I am obligated to do or not do? All I've ever been was getting dragged the second I woke up in here. I have no clue what is going on and what is going to happen to me. So please, just please, tell me how to get out of this," I could feel my face heating up, my heart was pounding with desperation. I wanted to get out, I needed to leave.
In return I got a small sigh, his body squatted down as he slid a paper on the table. We stared at each other and for the first time I didn't see any emotions on his face.
"Madison Desalo, I am sorry to tell you but you have been the unfortunate one to face this fate. There are many deities people worship out in the world and somehow you were one of the few to witness the ones who worship the devil. This paper right on the table here decides whether or not you get to escape hell to something a bit better than hell,"
Even if I tried to adjust to everything he spewed at me, I would never be able to. They say denial is the first stage of grief, and all I could think about was this being a dream. A dream too real, only leading to nothing but forcing you to accept it. To accept and embrace it.
"Nothing is ever fair no matter what you try, this is the best I can give you for now," He spoke once more, handing me a black pen.
"What am I supposed to do now?" I asked.
"You can either sign the paper and meet requirements to get another chance at life, or you can go straight to hell,"
My body automatically snatched the pen in his hand.
I engraved every single letter on the paper. Every curve, each letter a chime in my head. A chime going louder and louder.
Until it stopped.
The paper burst into flames as I dropped my pen on the table, I looked up to see his smug smile appear back on his face.
"I'll see you on the other side," He clapped twice, and it all turned black.
