Chapter 1: What is a hunter? Some would say that a hunter is someone who hunts animals. Brothers Sam and Dean Winchester are not typical hunters. The evil they vanquish is more frightening and real than the scary movies. They were just an ordinary family living in Lawrence, Kansas until November 2nd, 1983, their mother, Mary, was burned alive by a demon named Azazel who had terrifying plans for younger son Sam who was 6 months old. Older brother Dean was 4. Stricken with grief father John Winchester, a trained marine, became obsessed with finding out who and what the monster was that killed his beloved wife. He took his 2 sons and trained them how to be hunters. They traveled across the United States hunting evil. John Winchester taught his boys the 2 most important things about working cases. Number 1, never visit the same town twice. Finish the job. Number 2, don't get attached to people, especially women. Rule number 2 became hard for Dean when he was 16 years old. The case involved a missing 4 year old girl called Grace McCallister. She also had a 2 year old brother Nathaniel, and Sam, Dean, and John wondered why the demon kidnapped Grace but not him. The demon who kidnapped Grace was working for another powerful demon that they never got to know the identity of. Dean killed the demon with a weapon called the Colt. The same one made by Samuel Colt himself. Legend has it that it can kill any supernatural creature in existence. The moment he held Grace in his arms he knew he had a connection with her. John made Grace's parents, both doctors, to never mention them to Grace or her brother when they got older. Caroline and Russell, Grace's parents, were forever grateful to them for saving their daughter and honored John's wish to keep their identities a secret. As years passed, Dean couldn't stop thinking about her so he would drive to Salem, Massachusetts where she lived to make sure she was okay. He never told Sam or John. The last time he saw her she was 12.
Chapter 2: A lot happened to Sam and Dean within the last 6 years. John Winchester died saving both his sons. Sam and Dean were in Salem, Massachusetts finishing up a case involving a wrath and both were injured pretty badly. To get Sam's mind off the pain of his broken arm, Dean spilled the beans about how he had been watching Grace over the years.
"You've been doing what!" Sam shouted. "Dean, that's beyond creepy. You're 12 years older than her.
"Alright listen Sammy. I know how it looks but it wasn't like that. You know me. You and dad were unconscious when the demon said he had plans for her. The way he looked at her stirred something in me and I had to go back every so often to check on her. I had to make sure she was okay. If I had told Dad he would have skinned me alive. I broke one of his rules. Never get too attached to anyone."
Sam was quiet for a moment. He was glad Dean told him, but he couldn't help but be bothered that they were in Grace's hometown for the first time in 6 years. This couldn't be a coincidence.
"You're right Dean. I'm sorry for getting angry." Sam said.
"It's fine. We're not far from St. Mary's hospital. That's where Grace is working as an RN. Following right under mama's footsteps." Dean replied.
