Sitting inside a conference room on the Azur Lane base. Many ship girls sat at a table silently, as the commander walked inside and took his seat.

They all sat there in silence for what felt like an eternity. Nobody dared look at the commander  as he finally spoke up.

"We have confirmed that Montana has defected. He is now with the Sakura Empire." He said with an emotionless tone. His eyes uncaring.

"Well if we didn't plan to kill him then, this never would have happened." A small voice called out causing the ship girls to go into deep thought as murmurs between them all began.

Silently, New Jersey clenched her fist and grit her teeth before standing up and yelling. "DON'T YOU ALL REMEMBER WHAT HE IS?!"

The ship girls all looked towards her as she continued speaking. "He was an abomination! He was created out of the corpses of our friends and family! Arizona, Oklahoma, Chicago, Houston, and others were all raised from the depths of the abyss. And for what? For that... That thing?!"

All of the ship girls looked down as they remembered why they silently hated him. And yet she continued as a few ship girls clenched their fists.

"How in the hell were we supposed to work with a creature like that? One built on the corpses of our friends, and family? How were we ever supposed to-" Suddenly she was cut off by the commander.

"That's enough New Jersey! We get your point. And I agree. He should have never been built in the first place. But that's beside the point. The main problem is that one of our strongest battleships is now in control of the enemy." He said as he pulled out a folder with several plans and pictures. "I now officially declare that Operation: Forgotten is in motion."

(POV Change)

Beneath the shelter of a tree, Montana couldn't suppress a sneeze, a peculiar sensation alerting him to the notion that he was the subject of conversation somewhere in the distant currents of human connection. Rubbing his nose in mild amusement, he rose swiftly, his lithe frame stretching as his back emitted a satisfying pop that elicited a contented sigh.

Surveying the expanse around him, Montana's vantage point offered a panoramic view of the entire base. A cascade of emotions welled within him as he observed the ship girls in their element – a mosaic of movement, smiles, and laughter. A genuine warmth enveloped him at the heartening sight. These young women were an incredible departure from those he had known before. They exuded kindness, a stark contrast to the scorn he was accustomed to, and their genuine interactions banished the shadow of past experiences.

Suddenly he heard a noise behind him. Turning around he was greeted with the sight of a small destroyer panting heavily. It seemed she had sprinted up the hill. Walking over to her he took out his canteen of water and handed it to her.

She was quick to take many large gulps from his canteen before she took a few more gasps of air and stood with her back straight. "Ummm... Are you ok little one?" Montana asked with a slight bit of confusion and concern.

"Yea... Yeah, I'm okay." She responded as she took a breath of air. "Anyway, I'm here to inform you that the modifications made to your ship have been completed. Your ammo has also been restocked." She said fairly quickly as she looked up at him.

Smiling widely he lightly patted the tiny destroyer's head as he walked past her. "Thank you for coming up here to inform me of that, you have done your job well. Also, good luck going back down." He said with a snicker as the destroyer seemed to look at the hill with dread.

Walking down the hill he began to make his way to the dock once again. Looking at the ship girls around him he couldn't help but notice that they WEREN'T staring at him, and those that were looking at him simply smiled and waved as he passed by. Obviously, he returned the waves and smiles as he continued on his way.

He couldn't help but notice the differences in how they looked at him. They didn't look at him with hate or malice. They looked at him as if he were an equal, and that made him happy. Yet as he approached his ship he couldn't believe his eyes. The ship had a completely different paint job, it was black with red, and the Sakura Empire's flag flapped on his flag pole at the very top of his citadel.

But besides the looks, the ship seemed almost bare of any modifications. They hadn't seemed to remove anything, but the one thing he did notice was that he had way more AA guns. Walking up to the side of his ship he quickly walked up to the boarding ramp before walking onto his deck.

The second after he stepped onto his ship, it reacted to him and seemed to glow with blue cubes for a moment. Looking down he saw his coat change colors to take on a red and black color scheme as the eyepatch also changed to include the Sakura Empire's emblem.

Looking on in amazement as his clothes changed before his very eyes, he couldn't help but smile as he began to explore his ship. It was pretty much the same as he had left it, but he did notice a few differences. His radar had been improved, everything was clean, his engine seemed to run more smoothly, and his guns didn't seem to grind as much when they turned. He also could feel the weight added by the AA guns.

Smiling as he explored he finally came to the bridge of his ship as he looked it over. Overall it had not changed much, there were a few minor differences but nothing out of this world. Walking over to his helm he gripped it hard as he felt the polished wood in his hands.
