Today is the day the waiting is over. It's time for my first day of school in America. I'm much more excited than nervous, and I can't wait. I wake up on my own, my eyes straining to open. It was difficult to sleep last night while pondering all the things school could be like.
My eyes finally open, revealing the time on the clock. 6:30, I thought, Perfect. It seems Jakob has woken already. I quickly roll over and grab a pair of shorts and a T-Shirt. Twelve degrees is just your average day in Denmark, so not a problem.
After getting dressed, I go to wake the little ones, Peter and Alma, but Jakob is already there, trying to coax Peter out of bed. Alma is wide awake, brushing her teeth vigorously. "Let ME do it," I push Jakob aside. I take an attempt at it, "Peter, it's time to get up. It's 7:00. School is in an hour, go brush your teeth and get dressed". Peter just groans and rolls over. I run to the bathroom and splash my hands with cold water, ignoring Alma. When I go back, I rub that water on Peter's face. It stimulates the nerves to get you up and going.
"Why!?", Peter whined. "Please get up. You will be late!", I remind him. Peter finally gets up and trudges over to brush his teeth. I shout over my shoulder as I turn to leave with Jakob, "Sofia will take you to school today, she said so."
Jakob and I walk to school ourselves. It's only about a half kilometer away and we have fifteen minutes to get there, which is enough time. As soon as we reach school, Jakob dashes inside, while I calmly keep walking.
The second I walk through that door, a teacher greets me, "Hey, are you Casper?". I figure he must be there to tell me my locker, or give me a schedule, which is exactly what he does. I just reply, "Yes", like anyone would do. As I figured, he hands me a sheet of paper, which, sure enough, has my locker number, code, and schedule on it.
As time is running out until the first class, I quickly open my locker. It's pretty large, or at least, large enough to keep stuff in. I tape my schedule to the inside of my locker hastily, unpack my things, and view the schedule. Today is Monday, so... Biology. Biology was my favorite subject back home in Denmark. I remind myself not to get caught up and continue going through the schedule. Maths, English, and Lunch. Not too bad. I'll see the rest later, I think to myself as I slam my locker shut and sprint to Biology.
