Christi's POV
It has been three days since my beloved daughter who I loved with all my heart committed suicide. My world has been turned upside down, and I have fallen into a deep, dark pit of depression. I have lost all motivation to do anything.
I went up to Chloe's room and for once, it was completely silent. Just a week ago I was laughing, telling Chloe, Brooke and Paige to keep it down as they were shrieking with laughter over some youtube video. As I looked around the hauntingly quiet room, a solitary tear rolled down my cheek.
I had to clean the room out, and it was utterly heart-wrenching. The tiny fragments of my broken heart ached as I picked up her old pile of un-finished homework, lying beside her un-made bed. I decided to sort through the pile, wondering if there was anything worth keeping in there.
I was getting closer to the end of the pile, when I came across a small envelope, with "Maddie Ziegler" written in Chloe's perfect handwriting on it. I was curious, but I didn't open it as I didn't want to disrespect my daughter. I set the envelope to one side and continued cleaning Chloe's room.
Later that night, the unopened letter sitting by Chloe's bed was bugging me, and I couldn't open it, as it wasn't mine. It was for Maddie, and Chloe clearly wanted this letter to go to her. I couldn't go against my daughters wishes.
I hopped in the car and drove to Melissa's house. I needed to get those letters to Maddie. It's what Chloe would have wanted. I switched on the radio. "Chloe Lukasiak found dead in h-" I slammed my finger into the off button. I couldn't bear to hear about my daughters death. As I pulled up in Melissa's driveway, I started having doubts.
Should I give Maddie these letters? Should I keep them and read them myself? No, I thought, this is crazy, my daughter wrote these to Maddie, so Maddie will read them. I stepped out of my car into the cool evening air and looked up at the sky. The sun was going down, the sky fading from a hot burning orange, right up to a frosty blue, where some white stars glistened.
I looked up at the brightest star. I can't help but think that is Chloe, shining in heaven, finally free from whatever she was trying to escape. I guess that's what hurt the most. The unknowing. The idea of Chloe being the bright star comforted me slightly. I was devastated she was gone, but I'm glad she's free from whatever was hurting her.
I walked up to Melissa's big, oak door and knocked three times. Melissa opened the door within seconds, with a sympathetic smile plastered on her face. "Hey Christi. I'm so sorry about Chloe. Such a terrible loss." Melissa said. I heard it all before from almost everyone in Pennsylvania. "Thankyou." I replied softly. "Would you like to come in for drinks?" Melissa asked, breaking the awkward silence. "No, thankyou, I have to go, actually I was just cleaning.. Chloe's... room," I started, my voice trailing off. I cleared my throat and continued. "Anyway, I found this envelope, I think it's for Maddie." I said, tracing my daughters handwriting with my finger. "Oh, thanks, I'll give them to her, I'm sure she'll appreciate it. Thankyou!" Melissa smiled. I smiled weakly back and got into my car and drove away. I needed to go home and sleep. I regretted not reading those letters, but Chloe had a thing about privacy. She wouldn't have liked it...
