Maddie's POV
"MADDIE!" my mom yelled from downstairs. "What!?" I screamed back, taking out my headphones, irritated that my mom was disturbing me. No reply. I groaned, rolling off my bed. I stomped down the stairs, scowling. Why did my mom act like it was World War 3 if I don't answer her when she calls, but she can't even do the same!?
I walked into the huge kitchen, with multiple saucepans hanging from the ceiling over the glistening silver stove by hooks. I saw my mom standing at the stove stirring a large pot full to the brim with a fiery red sauce. I stared at the sauce, my mouth practically watering, as the smell of italian herbs, tomato, and spicy meatballs wafted into my nostrils.
My mom put down the wooden spoon and picked up a small envelope, marked with my name. It looked like Chloe's handwriting, but I couldn't tell. I was always jealous of her writing.
My mom handed me the letter without saying a word. I rolled my eyes, scoffing at this gesture. "What is this," I started. "Mom, please. I don't have time for stupid games! I'm at the top of the freaking pyramid! I have to perfect my solo!" I shouted at my mom. "Madison, don't take that tone with me. I have told you, you are not attending the competition this weekend. You are going to Chloe's funeral, that's it." my mom said, firmly.
I snatched the letter out of her hand. "MOM! THIS IS MY FAVORITE SOLO, WHY ARE YOU BEING LIKE THIS!?" I yelled, clenching my fists and stamping my feet. My moms gave me a stern look, and went back to stirring the pot. I was extremely frustrated at this point, and went back to my room, making as much noise as possible. Why did my mom want to ruin my life?!
I sat down on the edge of my perfectly neat bed and looked down at the envelope. I'm sure it was Chloe's handwriting. The same writing I looked down at in science and geography class with envy. I remember trying to knock her arm I was so jealous of her effortlessly neat handwriting.
I cautiously started to open the envelope. My hands were trembling as I pulled out the letter. I slowly unfolded it, chills running up and down my spine. My eyes scanned across the perfect writing. It almost looks as if it had been typed up. It was definitely from Chloe. I was completely confused as to why she would write me a letter. As I unfolded it, I realized there was multiple letters. I took a deep breath as I started to read. "Dear Maddie..."
