You were attending yet another of your boyfriend's kendo matches, after going to every single one for 2 years of your life you were starting to get bored. He never won a single match, you kind of felt bad, at one point you tried convincing him to quit the sport and try out something... different. That started an argument, and you ended up sleeping at your best friend, Yuukis' apartment. You both were in your second year of university, if he didn't get better now, he would end up at a desk job and be miserable. You cheered for him anyways because you knew you'd be a bad girlfriend if you didn't. Other than him being bad at kendo, he wasn't a great boyfriend, but he loved you, even if he didn't always pay attention to your needs or hobbies. He was preoccupied with, well kendo... He struck his opponent three times in this match, you smiled at him when it was over.

"Babe! Did you see that! I hit that guy three times!" He looked proud of himself. 'Oh man, this is going to be harder to do than I thought.' you thought to yourself. You had planned to break up with him the next time he lost a match, that was six tournaments ago. "Good job, babe! You'll do better next time!" Since this was the last qualifying tournament of the year there wasn't much else you could say. He frowned at you, "Yeah, maybe." He responded, dejectedly. You patted his back, "It's okay, Daisuke. You can continue to practice for next year." He smiled sheepishly, "Yeah, I guess. Do you want to go watch the national qualifiers this weekend?" You nodded, "Yeah, sure!" You silently promised yourself you'd break up with him next week. You liked him but he just wasn't giving you what you needed anymore, you hoped he would understand, and you could go your separate ways civilly.

As you walked back to his car you noticed a flyer on the wall by the door, it read "Roronoa Zoro, voted Japans' Greatest Swordsman three years in a row, has qualified for Nationals for the fifth year in a row." Daisuke noticed you looking at the flyer, "Oh cool! I knew he would make it! Hes been to nationals every year since he started kendo five years ago. He's a second-year university student like us but he was granted permission to go to our nationals when he was still in secondary school!" Your eyes widened and you nodded, "That's impressive!" Daisuke nodded and swung his bag over his shoulders, "Yep, I wish I was even half as talented as he is!" You smiled concerned, "I'm sorry." You offered, you glanced up at his face, he was holding back tears. "It's alright...I'm alright." You were mentally kicking yourself, damn it, you felt bad. 'Sorry Daisuke, it's not you, it's me.' You thought to yourself.

- Time jump, that weekend. -

Daisuke wanted to be early to the tournament to get good seat by the mats Zoro was supposed to be fighting at. You were leaning against the wall by the men's bathroom, waiting for him to be done, when a group of tough looking guys swung open the building doors. You unintentionally stiffened as you made eye contact with the two in the front. 'Yikes, scary looking dudes.' You thought as you averted your eyes to a rather interesting spot of peeling paint on the wall across from you. You begged whatever god was out there that they wouldn't notice you, no god was listening. "What's up sweetheart?" The shortest one jeered at you, you rolled your eyes, "Hmmm the ceiling it seems..." you responded, that answer usually got either a laugh or a look of incredulousness. The tallest member of the group laughed heartily, he was standing in the back, so you hadn't noticed him, "I like this woman... she's funny." He laughed again, he had green hair and was probably 180 cm tall. "Hibiki, leave her alone, I'm sure she's waiting on her boyfriend considering where she's standing." He looked down at you, "Don't let that idiot creep you out he's harmless...mostly." He winked at you and grabbed the other man's head like a basketball and steered him away from you as he walked past.

Daisuke came out of the bathroom as they entered the gymnasium doors around the corner. "Hey, sorry that took so long." You smiled at him, "It's alright. I think the other universities teams are showing up, we should go get seated." He nodded, "Yeah, good idea, can you get us some snacks?" He handed you a small wad of yen notes and kissed your cheek. "Yeah, sure." You walked around the back way to the snack vendor and sighed as you approached the long line. Your phone dinged; it was Yuuki, she had sent you a photo. You opened it up and it was of you... from like five seconds ago... you turned around. She was running at you, "YUUKI!?! What are you doing here? I thought you were still in Tokyo for your internship?" She jumped when she reached you, "I was but they let me leave a few days before it ended since I hadn't missed a single day." She looked over your shoulder, "Where's Dai?" She had always called him that, you knew it didn't mean anything and even if it did you would eventually encourage her to go after him once you broke up with him this week. "He's already seated. You can go and join him if you want to. This shouldn't take long." She nodded, "Alright, don't take too long!" You waved after her as she skipped off.
