Chapter 4

It has been 3 months since Lucas first called me up to talk to him, and he hasn't stopped either. When he does, we mostly just talk and he explains to me his gifts, I talk about mine. He even explained to me how Radioactive Children came to be.

During the Radioactive War, there were so many atomic bombs used that the range for radioactivity became widespread. People who could afford it could buy a safe house, those who didn't had other resources. My mom didn't have either, but she did have me. I wasn't born yet, though, I was still in her stomach. She had me the day a bomb had hit and when the people who survived heard about it later, they were shocked she hadn't died in childbirth. God was definitely with her.

She died from cancer a week after I turned 8. My dad died fighting in the same war that killed her when I was 1.

I had to go live with my uncle and he was abusive. I don't think there was one day I went without his abuse. He use to be so nice and caring, but his wife died and he just broke.

I would have to go and buy groceries every now and then, when I did I would watch a tae-kwon-do class through the window and learn. One night, I was caught by two students who happened to be Lin and Jaune. We immidiately became good friends and they quickly found out about my Uncle Osbourne. I told them not to worry and I could handle myself, but they still would check in on me at my house.

When I was 11, my uncle was murdered and the blame was set on me since I was the only one who lived there and the police were too busy with the aftermath of the war, even at that time, to investigate. I was thrown in jail without a trial and Lin and Jaune were thrown in trying to break me out.

Jail wasn't exactly a picnic, but I've been here with the greatest friends God can ever give me, so I'm at least happy.

I was walking to the cafeteria with Lin where we would meet Jaune at our usual table. We grabbed our food and sat down beside Jaune. "Okay, you owe us an explanation,"Lin said and Jaune just nodded slightly in agreement.

"What do you mean?" I asked quizzically.

Jaune scoffed,"That prince dude has been calling you over for a while now, care to explain?"

"Wow! Who are you and what have you done with Jaune?" Lin said and I chuckled. Usually, Lin was the crazy person who asked all of the questions and I usually had to answer them while Jaune just agreed with whoever.

"I'm just curious, same as you."

Lin groaned,"Dude! You're ruining the dynamic!"

"What 'dynamic'," I asked, putting quote around "dynamic".

"I'm the fun one, Jaune's the quiet one, and you're the buzzkill." Lin answered, pointing to each of us individually.

"Why am I the buzzkill?" I asked, a little offended.

"When are you NOT the buzzkill?" Jaune countered. I went to say something, but stopped as I thought. They had a point.

"No I think Jaune is the bringer-downer." I said back.

"Bringer-downer? What does that mean? I'm gravity's cousin?"

"Brother," I corrected.

A guard came up behind us and said that Lucas needed me again.

"You distracted our conversation!" Lin said shockingly. I just smirked and did a captain-like salute as I walked off.
