Mrs. Diamond, the biology teacher, was a stickler for rules. No eating, no sleeping, and never, ever come to her class late. In her words, "college isn't going to be lenient with you and neither am I."

In fact, half of his detentions came from her alone, since he thought the rules were stupid, especially the late one. It was easy to see that she didn't like him just as much as he didn't like her.

However as soon as those words left her lips, a flustered Lyla burst through the door. As all eyes turned to her, she fiddled with her sleeve. "I'm sorry, I'm late Mrs. Diamond! My locker was jammed and it took forever to get someone to open-"

"Ms. Miller," She cut Lyla off. "I was just saying how college won't approve of behaviors like this. Unless you want to work in a job like garbage disposal, I suggest you get yourself together because no college will want to deal with someone like you. Now, let this be a warning and sit down."

Throughout the tongue lashing, Lyla's hands clenched her sleeve in a death-like grip. Sensing the whispers and giggles around him, Blake rolled his eyes. "Funny, when it would have been much easier telling her to sit down instead of a five minute lecture."

His words earn him her glare. "Excuse me?"

"I'm just saying instead of wasting time with this whole speech, we could have been learning about the cells in our bodies." He smiled. "Or how the brain makes our body say things that are better kept inside our heads."

Mrs. Diamond's face grew redder by the second. Let me guess, detention.

"Well, Mr. Hill, if that's how you feel, why don't you think all about it in detention!"

Blake nodded. "Alright, I will take every second to think about how much you waste our time with these stupid rules." Gasps and whispers made him roll his eyes again. For crying out loud, we're all thinking it.

"Can I take my seat?" All eyes snapped to Lyla again before Mrs. Diamond pointed to the empty seat beside him. Lyla's eyes narrowed before she reluctantly made her way over.

At her glare, Blake shrugged his shoulders. Hey, I was just helping you out. If she wanted to ignore him that was perfectly fine by him. Just as he was about to start on his own notes, he noticed the bug.

The insect was big, surprisingly big and was slowly making its way up her chair. "Hey." Blake hissed. "Hey!" Her head turned, giving him a sharp glare before she returned back to her notes. By now, the bug had secured one leg to her back and was steadily getting on.

As if sensing it, Lyla reached behind her to scratch her back, just barely missing the insect that held on for dear life. Clenching his hands, Blake snapped.

"Hey!" he shouted. All eyes turned to him, including Lyla's. "Is there an issue Mr. Hill?"

Blake ignored her. "There's a giant bug on your back!"

"What?" Lyla screamed, shooting up. "Get it off! Get it off! Get it off!"

"Ms. Milder, please sit-"

She screamed. He snapped his hand to his ears, muffling the high pitch sound. Glancing at his notebook, he grabbed it and lung, whacking the bug to the ground. He glanced at Lyla who was visually shaken before his gaze snapped to Mrs. Diamond, who was the reddest he ever saw in her life.

"Detention!"

Detention was just after school free for all. There were times where he even skipped detention to head home and chill. Of course, that meant more detention later when they found out. Honestly, a part of him wasn't sure why they tried to keep kids after school as if that'll make them care more about it more.
