RAYNE'S POV
Me and Marcus had been best friends since birth. Our parents would always hang out and were good friends. Me and Marcus would always spend time together and hang out in till one day, when I was six I had just finished school. I was walking to my parents car but once I got in they started yelling at me because I "took too long" to get to the car. I sat there in the back looking down silently crying.
"LOOK AT ME WHEN I'M TALKING TO YOU!" My dad screamed.
I slowly look up but a second later all I hear is a
"SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH"
of car tires then everything went black.
When I woke up in the hospital my parents were gone. Nobody knew whether they were dead or alive, or where they had gone. They were just gone. And I have never seen or heard from them since.
Marcus and his parents took me in as their own.
When we were nine me, Marcus, and his parents were all on a walk. Me and Marcus slowly trailing behind them. Marcus seemed really sad that day so I stayed by his side. Everything was okay un till some old lady flung herself off a building and landing on his parents, killing them. Right in front of us.
One of the most traumatizing days for both of us.FLASHBACK IN THE ORPHANAGE
"Rayne..?" Marcus asked.
"Yeah?" I responded.
"Promise me, no matter what happens we'll stick by each other's side?" He stuck is pinky out.
"I promise. " I smiled and we hooked pinkies, promising to stay by each other's side. No matter what. Forever.
END OF FLASHBACK
It was a struggle getting our lives together. For two years we were in an orphanage but it was horrible there. Me and Marcus ran away at age 11 and have been on our own on the streets ever since.
We were 17 now. I'm surprised we've lasted this long. We're closer than ever. We're much more comfortable with each other and do everything together and will stick by each other's side forever. No matter what. We made a promise.
We were walking down the street side-by-side when Marcus pulls out a cigarette ready to light it. I grab it out of his mouth and throw it on the floor, stomping on it."What was that for?" Marcus says turning to look at me.
"Smoking is bad for you." I say.
"We're already on the streets, shit can't get much worse." Marcus speaks.
"Well, I care about you no matter what. So no smoking."
"Fine. You're lucky you're my best friend."
"I'm also your only friend." I giggle.
"I'm also your only friend." Marcus says in a teasing tone turning his face bringing it closer to mine.
I blush. I couldn't help but develop feelings for Marcus, even if we live on the streets.
I'm pretty sure I've always had a small crush on him but now we're older I'm really starting to notice it.We keep walking but see a group of cops and someone riding on a motorcycle getting closer to us.
"Hop on." They say.
Me and Marcus freeze, then start slowly backing away.
The person takes off their helmet and it looks to be a girl. She starts fighting the cops.
Me and Marcus look at each other with slight fear and confusion in our expressions. Then I feel a black fabric being placed over my head, then I pass out. When I wake up I'm in this strange place with 4 people in a line. The same girl who was fighting the cops, a tall guy in a black jacket, a seems to be Mexican girl with a red dress and day of the dead makeup on, then a really strange looking guy with a Mohawk. I turn to my right to see Marcus as well, he's already looking at me with a more confused then scared expression. I'm scared. Even though I've learnt how to somewhat take care of myself being tied up by strangers is still scary.
