The following week had been going quite well for Ben Anderson. He passed a test and was given a job at the New York City Lab. To top that off, he was given the task of studying a new organism with his colleagues, something he had been looking forward to ever since applying for this job. As he entered the lab, he smiled with excitement. But his excitement soon faded as he noticed that everyone seemed in a great rush. He walked over to colleagues. She too had a faint worried expression on her face. "Hey... what's happening?" Ben asked. The woman nearly jumped, but replied, "something's wrong with the equipment."
Ben rushed to the containment room. He saw some people hastily working at the computers and machines. One person nodded and said something, and they left. Ben came closer to this certain chamber. There was a table and a large glass tube inside. There seemed to be something large and grey in it. Looking at the monitors, it showed multiple scan results that he didn't seem to understand.
Ben suddenly felt a hand grab his shoulder, which made him jump in surprise. Turning around, he saw that the owner of the hand was Toby, his best friend from middle school. "What are you doing here?" He asked. Ben shrugged and continued to study the scan results. Scrolling through them, they showed some very interesting things.
Suddenly, he heard a loud explosion and screaming. Toby and Ben ran toward the noise, and saw a huge fire in the hallway, rapidly approaching.
They ran back to the containment room. The fire was slowly coming closer.
"Shit!" Toby exclaimed, "it's gonna destroy the samples!"
Ben pressed a button to open the chamber and took out the large tube. He ran down the other hall toward an emergency exit while Toby grabbed the other sample. Toby came running toward him with the other sample. He almost reached the open exit door when the building suddenly exploded behind them. Ben was thrown back, landing on the hard ground with a crash. He looked around desperately for a sign of Toby, but he was gone.
Then he noticed that the glass tube had shattered and the creature inside was desperately wiggling around.
Ben tried his best to grab it, but the gooey thing would keep slipping from his grasp. Eventually he managed to hold it and run from the building. As he ran, he didnt notice the thing slipping under his shirt and seeping into his skin. He kept running until he made it to his apartment, about 2 miles away.
