When he arrived at his apartment and shut the door behind him, he fell onto his knees in exhaustion and despair. His friend was gone. And he had done nothing to save him. The only thing he could save was that sample...

Suddenly, he realized that it was missing. He frantically searched himself, but to no avail. He stumbled toward his bedroom and sat down on the bed. Where could it have gone?

Right here...

A deep and omnipotent voice broke the silence and made Ben almost fall off the bed. "What the hell...?" He muttered, shaking it off.

"Clearly you didn't notice me seep into your skin."

It was the same voice again. So deep and inhuman.

Ben grabbed his head. He must be going crazy, he thought. "Going crazy? You seem very sane to me..." the voice said.

"You're not real, you're just in my head-" Ben remarked, when he felt something warm wrap around his waist.

He nearly screamed when he saw the grey tendril wrapped tightly around his torso. "Not real huh? Think again." The voice sneered.

As soon as the tendril retracted, Ben suddenly felt deathly hungry. He ran to the kitchen, looking for something to eat. He finally found a sandwich and ate it quickly. "Why the hell was I so hungry all of a sudden-" he asked himself.

He went back to his bedroom to rest a while. Today had been chaotic. First the explosion, then the loss of his best friend, and now this strange voice. He felt so tired...

"It's dead." The voice said. Ben nearly jumped. "Wh-what?" He whispered.

"I need something raw." It replied. "I can't eat raw meat," Ben explained, "if I do I'll get sick and have other complications."

"Weak humans..." the voice grumbled. Ben rolled onto his side and buried his face into the pillow. His mind felt foggy and filled with despair. And the voice...

Soon he felt something wet and hot trace his jawline and caress his cheek and lips. He moaned quietly and opened his eyes.

He yelped in fear when he saw the huge creature towering over him. Both of Ben's hands were trapped under its. The creature's skin was wet in appearance, and was dark grey with black splotches. Its face sloped downwards slightly, giving a snout-like appearance, with large white eyes. Its mouth was abnormally long and was twisted into a sly grin. It opened its large jaws, revealing rows of sharp fangs, alongside a pointy and long tongue. Strings of saliva dripped from its mouth onto Ben's face. He gasped, but remained speechless as it gave his jaw a gentle lick.

"I admit," the monster said, in that same deep voice from earlier, "You look cute when you sleep..."

"How long did I sleep..." Ben gasped, words barely forming. "3 hours and 25 minutes, to be exact." It replied.

"L- let me go-" he stammered. The monster began to tighten its grip, nearly crushing Ben's hands. "I wasn't done talking," it said, leaning in closer, nearly touching his ear, "I have an important question for you."

Before Ben could do anything, it whispered "why did you choose to save me?"
