Sketching never seemed hard to Luz. Not as much as when she was pressured to think before doing it. However, there was something about the way the portrait stared at her. Both eyes, which were not even similar, found their way into the artist's mind. Were they judging her or had she just finally lost consciousness to caffeine? Somehow the second option appeared less unreal than the other one. Yet feeling the judgment of fictional eyes was effective enough to mimic the constant expectation she had thrown on herself.
Since her arrival as the "new girl who runs a slightly famous account on Instagram", nothing went wrong. Therefore, everything was wrong. The unfitting feeling of belonging was stuck into her senses, as well as the worry of falling off the sudden throne she had been put on by her new so-called colleagues. She felt ungrateful and hungry. The four days old pizza was probably not edible and she ran out of cereals the night before. This meant that stealing a little bit of food from her grumpy roommate was the right thing to do as a responsible adult. Hunter wouldn't even notice the missing apple from his pile, right? As Luz wandered the apartment with one hand holding the fruit and the other looking for her keys, a soft humming became louder in her ear.
"I swear this is the first time I've eaten something from your part of the fridge, well except that one time I ate your leftover pasta or when I drank your soy milk because guess what, I bought the wrong one and I'm lactose intolerance and everything so...Yeah, I also may accidentally or not have eaten the-" She might as well just confess her entire stealing record to the boy, but as her body turns around encouraging her to face his annoying face he's nowhere to be found. Instead, this brunette with slightly faded lavender highlights stands mad with a broom in her hands.
"Who are you? Why are you at my house?"
"As far as I know I'm happily living in my house. So quit trying to stab me, it would be highly appreciated." Noceda didn't expect much from the small frame of the girl. "Also, did I just forget the door open or you broke into my apartment? I'm afraid if you answer the second option I'll need to call the police" Without much hesitation, she searches for her phone in her pocket.
"I have the keys."
"So stalker it is, great." With few movements, Luz starts pressing the small numbers in the scream.
"Well, this is my house, I have the keys and I'm not going anywhere!"
"You see, miss invader... "
"Amity Blight." The short Amity hissed
"Miss invader, as much as I do not love your visit, I don't want to have problems today. So please, can you just... I don't know, like... get the fuck out of my house?"
"I don't know. Can you get the fuck out of MY house? Like, right now!? I don't know what my cousin told you and everything, but I assure you is all fake. He doesn't love you, it would be better if you didn't get your hopes up, okay? Now, please can you just leave?"
"I don't even know your cousin? I live here with Hunter, my roommate!" At this point, the breakfast menu at The Owl House probably had already been replaced by the lunch one and she had lost her Monday waffles. Awesome.
"Shit." A third voice came over the girl's discussion, the blonde figure seemed tensed and the yellow smile on its face didn't make it any better. "So hey Amity, how is life? Luz, this is Amity my cousin whoImayormaynothaveforgottentotellabout!"
"Consider yourself a dead man." That's when Luz learned to never doubt a small mad cotton candy-haired woman's power.
Great. Besides the eight assignments due by the end of the week, having the possibility of moving out because of her roommate's lack of thought and a new addiction to caffeine, Luz was great. Simply great. Still, the only thing in her mind was the abnormal strength of the girl who was now running after Hunter with a broom in her hands, almost as she did a few minutes before. Noceda was tired and couldn't be bothered, she just got her keys and left in hopes of a giant hot coffee she could drink instead of absorbing every piece of the reality she was living in.
The few first steps outside were accompanied by the slightly cold breeze. Leaves started falling just two days before, in a perfect motion as if a pattern was set before their arrival on the ground. 'Somewhat the weather still respects its cycle' the girl thought to herself 'Everything is falling down, but at least the leaves type of falling is expected.' Luz never intended to like knowing things beforehand, actually, spontaneity used to follow her in everything she could touch, but growing up taught her the pain in last-minute plans. Such "plans" weren't really planned but managed to intrude on her life in the worst ways possible. Even when they tend to happen on the exact day of the week she gets to go to her favourite place and eat her favourite breakfast. With her phone still on hand, she decided to call Willow hoping her friend had decided to have a morning study session at the diner.
"Hey Willow, I'm heading to the Owl House are you there today?"
"Yep, I actually thought you'd be here to eat your strange waffles."
"They are not strange, they simply are purple, which makes them a hundred times tastier! But I guess I won't be eating them today." Sure, she was a grown young adult but coloured food still sounded as delicious to her now as when she was younger.
"Good thing I asked Eda to make some for you. No need to thank me, I know I'm the best person you've asked for!" After that she ended the call, Luz was outside the place and somehow her friend's sentence made her even faster to eat her precious food.
The doorbell ranged as she rushed to sit down and not greet Willow. The weather outside wasn't the only fit into Luz's expectation list anymore, her perfectly made plate with purple waffles and syrup could melt her heart miles away.
"Willow, I really really own you, this is just what I needed."
"As much as I like little flower girl there, I'd liked to be appreciated as much?!" The hoarse voice screamed out the kitchen, revealing a couple of customers not used to the diner.
"Than-k you, E-da!" With a mouth full the scream back wasn't as loud as she wanted, but the girl made sure to be heard. Again she kept on devouring the food as she had been days on an empty stomach.
"Please don't say you spent your weekend sketching that stupid portrait of yours. We've been over it, Luz! Have you at least eaten something in the last twenty-four hours?"
"Well, I had pizza."
"Tell me, it isn't the one we bought back Friday."
"..."
"LUZ?"
"It wasn't even that bad, ok? It wasn't fresh but It wasn't so terrible."
"I going to pretend you didn't tell me this and just wait until you tell me why you were late today." The smaller girl looked as tired as Luz. However, skipping the topic 'I may not have a home anymore when I come back to not-my-home-anymore' was unavoidable.
"So guess what, I wasn't planning on coming here today. I thought I could end one of my essays this morning, but now I have a bigger problem than a simpler shitty professor's paper. Which includes me and Hunter and this awfully crazy girl and my house and I think I'll have to find a new place." The words slipped through her mouth in seconds, making understanding it hard.
"Hunter has a crazy girlfriend who broke into your apartment and is after you?" Luz denied with her head "I really don't get how everything is connected, I just feel like an explanation would help you know?"
"Crazy girl is Hunter's cousin, hunter's cousin also owns the apartment, she didn't know I exist and is pissed." Her friend skimmed thoughtfully as she looked after her memory to some information that could help the Latina out.
"I don't think she can like just throw your things out of the building? You said you were splitting the bills with Hunter, she can't be as crazy to make you find a new place over the day." That's what she thought.
