When Their Eyes Meet

Chapter 9

Once Carina got home she took a quick shower and then packed her duffle bag. She then called Andrew asking if he would take care of Jeff. Once she got everything squared away she headed back to the hospital. She pulled into a parking spot letting out a breath as she broke down slamming her fists on the wheel crying and screaming wondering why this had to happen. Andrew was leaving as he spotted her walking over and knocking on her window. She opened the door slowly.

"You ok little sister?" He asked arms open wide for her.

Carina got out of the car falling into his arms. Once she calmed down she thanked him for everything and then grabbed her things to head back to Maya. Once she got back to her room she could tell Anna had been crying.

"Thank you for staying, I needed that shower," Carina joked as she sat back down next to Maya grabbing her hand.

"Have you eaten yet?" Anna asked her.

"No, I don't have much of an appetite."

"Carina, you need to eat, how about I go get us something? How about pizza?" Anna smiled knowing that was Carina's favorite.

"Well I can't turn down pizza," Carina said cracking a smile.

"I'll go get us some, I'll be right back."

After Anna left Jackson came in to check on Maya. "Hey, Carina you hanging in there?"

"Si, I'm trying my best, Thank you."

"Of course, I'm just here to check the stitches one more time before my shift ends."

Carina watched as he put some more cream on them and looked over them once again. Then he readjusted the pillow under her arm to help keep more weight off of it. "If you need me, you have my number," he said hugging her before he left.

Anna came back pizza in hand, making them each a plate both of them finally eating.

"Ok, I gotta get back to the twins and I feel a lot better with you staying with her. So I'm gonna head out please call me if anything changes or if you need me."

"Grazie, I will don't worry," Carina said giving her a big hug before she headed out for the night as well.

Carina got the bed made next to her and pushed it as close to Maya's bed as possible so she could hold her hand as she laid down trying to get some much needed sleep.

The next morning Carina woke up to a nurse checking on Maya.

"Good morning Dr. Deluca," Jo said.

"Ciao Jo," Carina replied still half asleep.

"Her heart rate was raised a little last night so we increased her morphine drip to help with the pain. It's back in normal range now so under control. She's doing good."

"Ok ok good," Carina said rubbing her thumb back and forth on Maya's hand.

"I'll be back a little later to check on her, if anything changes hit the call button."

"Grazie Jo."

Throughout the next week Carina stayed with Maya every night and Anna visited frequently as well as everyone from the station. Everyone wanting to see her and check in on her.

"Alright so her stitches are still healing great and looking good, her arm is healing beautifully, as well as her ribs. Today we are gonna take her for a cat scan to see how the swelling in her brain is looking. Then we are gonna try to lower her a little more off the oxygen," Amelia finished.

"Ok thank you Amelia that all sounds great."

Amelia then wheeled Maya out to take her for the cat scan. Carina taking this time to call Anna to give her the update as well. A little while later Amelia came back with Maya.
