Sometimes, when I can't fall asleep, I think about what it would be like to have a magic power. I would keep it secret, of course, like every TV character you've ever seen with a supernatural power. I've probably thought about every superpower there is. The most boring of them all, in my opinion, is telekinesis. Okay, yes, moving objects with your mind would be pretty amazing. But think about it. Out of all the superpowers in the world? I'll pass.

Then there's levitation. Being able to fly around everywhere sounds pretty cool, I'll admit, but how in the world would you hide it? All someone would need to do is look up and you'd be busted, and no flying for you. There's no bang for your buck with a power like that.

Next is telepathy. At first, this might seem like the best power to have. Getting to see inside people's minds? That's a hell of a superpower. But think about it a little more deeply, and you'll see that it's not only a blessing, it's a curse. No one really wants to know what everyone around them is thinking all the time. Imagine hearing someone you thought was your friend wish you never showed up at the hangout? Your best friend slip out a covetous thought about your boyfriend? Your mother, in a moment of anger, wish you were never born?

No thank you.

The very best superpower to have, one without any caveats, is time travel.

If you can manipulate time, you're essentially the master of the universe. Any mistake you've ever made-erased. Any moment you wish you could do over, redone. But that's just the beginning. Time is knowledge. Control of time allows you to control everything. Everyone. If you've seen Back to the Future II, you know what I'm talking about. If one little almanac could make someone that rich and powerful, imagine the possibilities. They're endless.

And no, I'm not forgetting that that someone was Biff. Or that his possession of the almanac basically turned Marty's existence into a real-life reenactment of Dante's "Inferno." So yes, I am aware of how time travel can backfire.

If you can't control it.
