Chapter 6

"Kung ipagmalaki niyang nasa family reunion siya, kala mo di siya ampon a."

I nodded. Nikki doesn't know that she's adopted. At kung bakit namin alam ni Crash, we had her background checked. Private investigator ang kuya ni Crash. Sinamantala na namin yung pagkakataon. I was desperate to know before who Nikki is. To know what does she have to make Stan leave me.

Things we found out about her did not answer my question. Si Stan lang talaga ang makakasagot nun. I know Stan and Nikki aren't together now. Kaya everytime Nikki brings up the topic about Stan, choosing her over me, naaawa lang ako sa kanya. She's obsessed with Stan. Balita ko hanggang ngayon, hinahabol niya pa rin si Stan e.

"Max."

I glared at Crash. Rinding-rindi na talaga ako sa pangalan ko! Nakakainis!

"Ahehe... Sorry." he showed me a peace sign. "Let me ask you something."

"Shoot."

"May feelings ka pa ba kay Stan?"

I paused all my thoughts for that question. I sighed as deep as I can. Meron pa nga ba? How would I know kung wala na? We still need closure, don't we?

"How would I know?"

Crash shrugged. He stared at the window. It's raining tonight. Sobrang presko sa pakiramdam pero heto ako, nanlalagkit. Nilagyan namin ni Crash ng petroleum jelly yung mga sugat ko sa braso para hindi maging peklat.

Napalingon ako kay Crash nang bumuntong hininga siya.

I acted like I was suffocated. "Ang baho, Crash." I covered my nose. "Magtoothbrush ka nga dun!"

"Hoy! Hindi mabaho hininga ko! Baka sayo yung naamoy mo."

"Masyado kang defensive. Ano bang iniisip mo diyan?"

I slouched, waiting for his reply. Pero tinitigan lang ako ni Crash. Binato ko siya ng unan. I know that look. He wants to start a heart-to-heart talk.

"Alam mo Max, when you left for France, lumalapit sakin lagi si Stan. He always asks about you."

Tumayo ako para kumuha ng ice cream sa freezer. Sus, sinong niloko niya? I let him go. I removed myself out of the picture. Chance na nila ni Nikki yun para ipagpatuloy yung relationship nila without hiding from anybody. Tapos he'll ask about me kay Crash? Bumalik ako sa breakfast nook where Crash is waiting.

"Ano sabi mo?"

Crash shrugged. "Sabi ko nasa Paris ka. You took a vacation ganun."

"Tapos?"

"Tapos nabalitaan ko na lang sinundan ka niya sa Paris."

Why did he? To explain things about him and Nikki? I looked down when I felt something in my chest. Nag-focus ako sa ice cream na hawak ko.
