When Ivy woke up, she had the urge to lunge forward. She took a deep breath examining her surroundings. It took her a minute to realize she woke up at the Sunview Hospital, Arlo was in a deep sleep lying next to her. She was surprised her jolt did not wake him. They had put in an IV so she would stay hydrated. Her body felt tired and sore, her head was pounding. Ivy caught the nurse off guard; she did not see the nurse when she first woke up. But when the nurse started mumbling Ivy realized she scared her.
"Hi, you, okay? Sorry if I scared you," Ivy said in a calm manner.
She looked down at her clipboard and then back over to Ivy she was definitely shocked.
The nurse seemed new she tapped her clipboard while gazing at Ivy. "I. Um I am going to go get the doctor for you,'' she mumbled in uncertainty. As she left the room.
Claire and Ivy walked in a minute later. With some snacks from the vending machines.
"You are awake! How are you? We went to grab some snacks since Arlo fell asleep," Claire whispered.
"I'm fine,'' Ivy replied.
Claire had a hard time with hospitals ever since her mom died. So, Ivor did most of the talking. Ivor informed her they gave information to the EMTs so they could take the appropriate action in the given situation. After she passed out, the ambulance loaded her and left for the hospital. Ivor informed her that her head was swollen, and she had lost a lot of blood. He then claimed Arlo refused to leave her side, so they spent most of their day waiting around the hospital. Which was understandable, Arlo only had his mom.
Ivy figured she would need to stay at least a day before they would release her, so she asked Claire to watch Arlo. She did not mind taking Arlo back to the house. Ivy woke Arlo up; it took him a minute to fully awaken; as soon as his eyes opened, he grabbed Ivy's face.
Staring at her, Arlo asked, "Are you okay?"
Ivy told him that she would need lots of rest before she could leave and return home. So, she wanted him to go with Claire. Arlo had school tomorrow and had no business sleeping in the hospital overnight. He nodded in agreement and grabbed his backpack he carries everywhere. They said their bye's and started to leave as the Doctor walked in.
"Hello, my name is Dr. Langston. It's a pleasure to meet you," she stated.
"Hi," Ivy responded as she waved Arlo goodbye.
Dr. Langston took time to check all her vitals. She listened to Ivy explain how her head and body felt. Since everything sounded good, she would be able to sign out after twenty-four hours just as a precaution. They wanted to keep her under supervision. Ivy's head was throbbing but that was a good thing. The blood loss was very significant, but they stitched her head and informed her the stitches should fall out on their own. Dr. Langston gave Ivy a heads up before she left the room that a police officer would be coming to get a statement soon.
It was about three hours before there was a knock at the door. The male police officer who showed up earlier walked in and introduced himself as Lieutenant Braxton. He wanted to start off by notifying Ivy that Marcus was taken into custody and that he would be held on assault charges. He claimed that Ivy's assault and rape case against Marcus from five years prior would be reopened. Ivy did not know if she should believe him, it sounded too good to be true.
"Does that mean there will be another court trial?" Ivy asked.
"Nope, they are going to keep you and Arlo out of it all since the evidence is strong." Braxton stated.
Ivy simply stared at him in disbelief. The last time someone had Marcus in custody they just released him based on circumstantial evidence. Braxton then went on about how her restraining order and custody of Arlo would stay the same. If anything, her full custody rights were stronger than ever. Braxton just needed her to recount the altercation at the Pizzeria.
Ivy recanted through all the details and Braxton filled in some blank spots. For instance, the guy who came up to her and Marcus first was Alec, his older brother. The next two that came to help were Theo and Tyler, his younger brothers.
He then laughed and said, "I guess I should introduce you to all my siblings sometime."
He chuckled while Ivy just looked at him in utter confusion. Then Dr. Langston entered the room.
She said, "I hope my son is not bothering you too much." Ivy's mouth fell open, she was perplexed, to say the least.
She felt as though she could not believe it. How is it possible that all the help she received has been coming from one family. Dr. Langston came in for a quick vital check. She was quick but Braxton stopped talking when she walked in.
When she left, he smirked saying, "Patient confidentiality she may be my mother, but rumors spread like fire in hospitals."
Braxton listened to Ivy's account of events. He scribbled on his little pad of paper. She could tell he was watching her facial expressions. Making sure she was not lying. It made her struggle to focus. Braxton was definitely good at his job. She has met some interesting officers throughout her life he was definitely trained by a good cop. Then she asked him about where his partner was. His reaction was odd he laughed for a minute. Ivy raised her eyebrow in confusion.
He looked at her and asked, "Are you serious?"
Ivy responded, "She was not your partner, was she?"
Braxton took a deep breath before explaining to her that the girl who walked in with him was actually his sister. The whole reason he got there when he did was a coincidence.
"I'm surprised she is not an EMT," Ivy replied.
"She was just along for a ride," he stated.
"I see," Ivy responded.
He told Ivy she needed to get some rest. As he said to feel better, he took his leave.
