'This is it.' You think to yourself. 'Im really going to do this' You take a deep breath and close your eyes. You focus on the wind blowing through your hair as you sit on the edge of the roof. You came here to die.

You exhale as you reason inside your head. 'Just do it. No one will miss you. You're a failure. They want a perfect daughter, one who makes perfect grades, respects them, follows their dreams, and doesn't curse. They want a perfect friend, one who is skinny like them, one who has the latest fashion, knows the latest gossip, and can pay to go shopping at the mall. They want a perfect sister, one who isn't fat, one who they aren't ashamed of, one who doesn't steal their makeup. Everyone wants you to be perfect and your not. This will make you disappear and their problems will go away.'

You sigh deeply and look down again at the traffic below. The cars look like ants. You are on top of one of the tallest hotels in New York. It's 11:55 and at the stroke of midnight you plan to jump and your horrid life will finally be over. It took you forever to talk yourself into walking into the tallest building you could find, riding the elevator up to the top floor, and walking out onto the roof. Your parents aren't worried about you right now, their at your sister's dance recital. Your perfect little sister.

Your thoughts are interrupted as you jump at the sound of the roof door opening and then slamming close. You shrink closer to the edge, not wanting anyone to be here because you know they will try to stop you. After awhile, no one appears so you assume it was the wind and turn back to look at the skyline again.

"Come here to jump?" a deep, British voice rings through the darkness, startling you. You started to turn around when you feel whoever it is climb up on the ledge and sit next to you. Looking over, you could just make out the shape of a head in the darkness.

You watch as the guy slowly brings a cigarette up to his mouth in one hand, a lighter in the other, lights it, takes a puff and then blows the smoke out. You are memorized as you watch the end of the cig glow orange and the grey smoke billow out in clouds. You quickly turn away though as you realized he was ruining your plans.

"Yes, and what's it to you?" You snap back, really just wanting him to go away so you can escape this world and the crushing pressure to be perfect.

"Nothing, nothing. Hey don't let me get in your way, go right ahead." he replied even moving over a little bit to give you some more room.

'Good.' You think. You look down at the car lights and the people only visible due to the street lamps. They are so small from where you sit. You take a second to rethink your decision. 'Should I really do this? What good could come out of it? My mom would be devastated. She always said she'll love me no matter what. But that could just be all lies, she also calls me useless. And my friends, I helped them all get their crushes to talk to them, plus I'm their listener. The person they tell everything, what would they do without me? They depend on each other though too, what about that time they all went to the mall on my birthday without me?! What about my siblings? Sometimes we did more than fight, remember when we all played monopoly together and they let me win? Yeah but then normally the only interaction we have is calling me fat ass when they pass me in the house.'

Your thoughts are yet again interrupted by the smoking guy. "I can tell that you are kind of having an internal battle so why don't we climb off the ledge, sit down and you can talk about it to me?" he asked softly as he let out another puff of smoke. You can tell he really just wanted to make sure you can't jump. Why won't he just leave.

"Why don't you just leave me and my business alone and go smoke your cancer stick somewhere else?" you ask, deciding to voice your question out loud.

"Well I could," He starts while staring at you through the darkness. Funny, you never really saw his eyes until now and they are amazing. No! Snap out of it! "But then I would be left with the guilt for the rest of my life. Regretting the fact that I didn't stop someone from doing the same thing I wanted to do just 6 months ago."
