A new Perspective

It's been a few days since I trapped a serial killer in my basement, and it dawns on me that I haven't called my parents at all this week. "Ah shit- Bob could you keep the volume down for 20 minutes? I need to call my parents and they've been spamming me since you came."

"Is this because they don't know you have a literal cannibal in your basement?" he asks.

"They don't know that anyone is here, so try to keep the stomping to a minimum."

"I do not stomp!"

"Yes you do! That's all I hear at night when you pace around! People are thinking I have an elephant in my basement."

"Oh please it's not that bad."

"Yeah yeah, now sit down or something and shut up." The phone rings and I rush to pick it up. "Hi mom! Sorry for not calling, it's been a bit stressful for the past few da-"

"ARE YOU OK?? DID HE FIND YOU?? ARE YOU SAFE?", she yells. Even with speakerphone off you can hear it. Then there's a cackle from the basement.

"One moment mom..." I mute the phone and yell at Bob to shut up. "Sorry about that! I thought I heard something downstairs." I say.

"Oh it's fine, I understand if your anxious. That man is notorious, and should've been put on death trial."

"Well right now all that matters is that I'm safe, and so is the house. I'm also trying to get a good security system for the house to make sure that no one is stalking my hou-" There's a knock on the front door. "Hold on momma." I put her on hold, and go to open the door. Its the police.

"We have reported witnesses that Bob Velseb has came through this neighborhood and there hasn't been a sighting since. Do you mind keeping an eye out?", one asks.

"When did I work for you?"

"Just work with us for the safety of yourself and the neighborhood", the other says.

"Maybe you should stake out the neighborhood instead of making us do your job. Don't think for a second that I forgot what you did to my only friend."

"The evidence said-"

"The evidence didn't say shit! The only person who didn't baby me was killed by you! Now get out of my doorway and get off of my property!"

"Ma'am-"

"NOW!" I slam the door on them and relock it. I get back to the call with mom but she already hung up. "Just great, now she's gone too"

"Damn, I never heard someone yell at the police like that other than the mayor. They really did hurt you... didn't they?" Bob asks.

"Yeah. They really did, and they don't want to own up to it."

"Listen.... if I promise not to kill you, could you come down here? I'd actually like to see something other than my own face."

"Alright give me a few minutes though. I gotta move the stuff away from the door and get the boards off."

"Wait you barricaded the door too? Damn, and I thought you were worried about your house getting a little disorganized." He laughs and I start moving furniture back.

"Why don't you try kidnapping a serial killer in your basement then. You'd be a bit scared too ya know!" I plug back in the fridge, and make sure everything is back exactly where it was before, and grab the doorknob and put it in the door. "You can't open it from the inside so the door will be cracked. However, the police are scouting the neighborhood so I don't recommend leaving."

"Not like I wanted to leave anyway. My place is in ruins."

"That happens when you get arrested you get served a life sentence." I flop down on the couch and curl up, while bob sits next to me staring into the distance.

"So what do you think would happen if you parents found out your harboring me in your basement?" he asks.

"Attempt to demobilize you and call the police, or straight up kill you themselves." I say in response. His knife belt is over on one of the tables, so it looks like he'll keep his promise on not killing me. "I don't think my parents will even come back until your arrested. They know I can handle myself, but it still sucks that they may not come back."

"And how old are you?"

"22, why?"

"At least your not a child, then that would be child abandonment"

"Well they did leave me home alone a lot during high school, and even now with online college and freelancing. They had an early retirement and wanted to spend their life to the fullest outside of this shit hole."

"Well there's the annoying kids to deal with on the 31st, so good luck keeping them away from your door."

"Well if your willing to coexist until my parents come back, maybe you could be upstairs with me, but no open curtains or blinds."

"Doesn't sound too bad, but why?"

"Why what?"

"Why are you not doing anything other than showing mercy to me? Everyone usually runs in fear, tries shooting, or hurting me, but that's what I'm used to. So why? Why are you the only exception?"

"Well you only tried to break down the door once, and was basically acting like you're an actual human under that mask of yours, despite your constant drooling as soon as you think of human flesh, but you haven't killed or eaten me since I came down here, so I'd say it's a sign of trust."

"Well you did send the police away and I can't leave, so I have no choice but to trust you. Besides your house is nice, and you seem like a good person. But your too trusting."

"What do you mean by that?"

"Your literally inviting a cannibalistic serial killer into your house."

"Fair point."

"But thank you for your kindness, uh... what's your name?"

"Y/n. And your welcome. Now I wanna nap, so can I sleep without losing a limb?"

"I'll try not to, but I can't guarantee"

"That's good enough for me."

"I- ok then."

"If an hour passes wake me up" I say before I fall asleep.
