Virgil still took a lot of caution and care after that, but he was slightly more reckless knowing that he could just be revived. What he didn't consider is that many centuries later, he would still be alive.
Every time Virgil died, Janus just revived him. Now in theory this would be excellent, you and your partner live forever, that's great! But in reality, being alive for centuries and seeing as cultures get created and destroyed is horrible. Everyone you've ever known is dead, you live in isolation with your godly partner and you have no one else.
He was starting to get tired of life, and Janus wouldn't let him die. It sounds sweet but it's not. It's obsessive. Virgil is long due a rest, but he just can't, he gets revived every. Single. Time. He's just stuck in an endless cycle of death and life.
