It's 06:00am in the morning. Suddenly the feeling of exitement I had towards this holiday has been replaced by some great sadness. I look at myself in the mirror after taking a long hot shower. I head into my closet to pick myself an outfit. I spot my long white dress my mom gave me. No, not this.

I pause before I go to my denim jin skirt. Mom gave me that too. Generally, she is responsible for almost half of everthing in my closet. I take a deep breath and pull out the skirt.I take out a white T-Shirt and a black hoodie. These should do. Finally I go to my shoes and fetch out my red soviet converse. It was Michelle who helped me buy these. I put them on. I have my own sense of fashion to be brief.

After that I go back to my mirror to make my hair. I just simply tie my dark hair into a ponytail.

I head to the kitchen to find mom and and dad. 'Morning hunny,' my dad says as he fries breakfast eggs. Am not sure how to take a dad who loves cooking and food. It's just nice I guess.

I smile. 'Morning dad.' The last thing I want right now is mom asking if I am okay. Then asking me a baziillion more questions.

'Morning dear,' that's mom. 'You look glamorous and I thought you had outgrown those shoes.' She chuckles, taking in my outfit. No mom, you clearly know that I don't even look like my age. That little brother is almost as tall as me and I look like am thirteen. 'Heading out for practice with Michelle?'

I nod. I haven't told my mom about the fight I had with Michelle. Am just hoping that the moment I walk over to her place and tell her how sorry I am, it's all gonna be okay.

'Kayla,' calls dad. 'Can you go tell your brother to stop playing that damn video game right now get over here, now.' Dad and Conor, one time they're fighting and then another time they're bestfriends.

I just nod and head towards Conor's room. I find him playing video games and shouting to his headphones like a maniac. I never get my twelve year old brother.

'Conor, dad needs you in the kitchen right now,' I shout at him, hoping he hears me over those headphones. He doesn't answer, holding on to his controller like it's the most important item in the universe. 'Conor!'

'Am coming! Am coming! Gosh!'

I just leave and head back to the kitchen. 'Is he still on the video game?' Dad asks, seating next to mom on the dining table. I just nod as I join them. Conor shows up and we have breakfast together as a family, talking about our plans for this hoilday. To be honest am kinda lost in my thoughts that I miss out on some of the things they discuss. They all notice how ansent minded I am. Mom and dad stare at me before gazing at each other with questioning expressions.

Right there it's when I realize I should get out of here before they can start flooding me with concerned enquires. Am done with breakfast anyway. I get up from the table with my dish in my hand, which I quickly wash in the sink.

'Mom, dad, am going to Michelle's.' I tell them before I say goodbye.

Then I head there, full of hope that everything will get back to normal. I have no idea how she's going to welcome me. Surely by now she should be calm and willing to talk.

I walk out to Michelle's on a cool morning of summer. Still wondering how she's going to welcome my visit. I try to rehearse by myself on what I should say to her.

Mi, hi am so sorry for what I said to you yesterday. I didn't mean it. It's just that I let my emotions get the best of me with how you acted. No, of course no. That would be a silly thing to say.

Okay, let's try again. Michelle, hey. Listen, am really sorry for everything I said yesterday. I didn't mean to act like I did. You forgive me?

That? Aaah! Maybe I simply say, Hey, Michelle, am really really sorry.  And give her my sad face. Then we're going to hug. I'll have my bestie back. And we will be as usual. We'll still do the competition together.

Now I can see her house. Am at Michelle's and suddenly I can feel the thumping of my heart through my chest. Am scared.

Reaching the doorsteps, I knock on the door thrice before I hear footsteps approaching. Oh my god. Get me out of here!

The door opens and I smile to try to brighten the atmosphere. I look up and I lock eyes with Michelle's mom. Great, maybe she's still asleep. Based on how I know her, getting up before 08:00am on a holiday is so not her thing. I can't even count all the times she's been late to school for oversleeping. I smile at the thought. That young lady needs her head checked.

'Hi dear,' she says. 'You can come in.' She seems a little exhausted.

'Thanks,' I reply as I walk with her into her silent house. 'Is Michelle around?' I ask, which is more like asking for; can I go to Michelle's room.

She raises her eyebrows in confusion. 'She didn't tell you anything?'

'Um, no, tell me what?' What's going on?

'Oh, she left this morning just like she said she had told you. She went to her granny's and that's where she'll be for the next few days. She didn't mention exactly when she would be coming back.' What? Okay, what?

'Oh, um...' I don't know what to say. 'I guess I'll just call her. Thanks a lot. I should be heading back now.' Now am really annoyed. Who does that? Yes, we did fight but who abandons their bestfriend because of a small fight? If that's her decision then that's just her loss. Am nothing but good to her.

'Pleasure dear,' she says. 'You're free to visit anytime okay?'

'Thank you so much.' Is all I say. Then I head towards the door, but before I disappear, Michelle's mom calls out my name.

'Kayla,' and I turn. 'You wanna try out my freshly baked miffins?' I smile. Having some amazingly baked muffins with my bestfriend's mom won't hurt. Besides, I need something to help me feel better at this point. I change my course and go back into the house, closing the door behind me, beaming.
