Chapter 12Adams POV:
It's finally the weekend and I have a couple of days away from the hell that they call middle school.
I wake up and go into the kitchen to get some food. And I hear a knock on the door. I just let someone else answer it but then it knocks again and I realize I'm the only one up so I go answer it,
"Hello?" I say looking up at the woman on the other side of the door.
"Hi is Adam Jenkings here?" the lady aked
"yeah, I'm here. What's going on? Am I in trouble?" I asked and closed the door a little again
"Oh no, not at all. There's something I need to tell you" she seems really hesitant about what she is saying.
"Okay, what is it?" I ask, just wanting to get this conversation over with.
"I-I'm your mother," she says after a moment's hesitation.
"What? And- and you're just now coming around? What is it? Do you want something?" I said, I may be only 13, but I'm not stupid
"No, that's not it at all," she said, coming down to my level
"Then what is it? Tell me and leave me alone" I'm on the verge of tears but I look her dead in the eye
"I understand why you're angry and you have every right to be, I cannot blame you for that, but I thought I'd tell you the truth and give you a choice"
"A choice in what?" I ask
"Let me explain first, okay, why don't we sit down"
"Yeah, okay" I walk over to the porch swing and sit down
She sits down after me "Okay, so I was really young when I had you, but that's not the reason I gave you up, because, trust me, if that's all it was, I would have kept you and we would've made these thirteen years beautiful, but your dad, he- he uh got us into some things that I did not want you anywhere around, and my only regret is that I didn't leave it sooner so that I could have you sooner, but I made sure he didn't know about you and I had to wait until the time was right and then I had to make sure that If I did get you back, you'd be safe with whatever decision you made" I can tell that she is telling the truth and then I finally let go and hug my mother, crying tears of a mix of emotions into her shirt and she just holds me, crying tears of her own. "I'm sorry I couldn't be the mother I wanted to be with you."
"It's not okay, but I can forgive you, you did what was best and what is best isn't always the okay option." I look up into her eyes again and give her a small smile.
She runs her fingers through my hair and looks at me happily and I return that look "does Hadley know about all of this?"
"She has known that ever she took you in," she tells me
"Do I have to make my choice right now?" I ask fidgeting with my hands
"No, of course not, you take as long as you need, okay?" she reassured me
There's a silence for a while, the silence that is needed, the silence that shows that change is happening, the silence that says that there is a decision to make.
"I want to go with you," I say, nodding my head
"Are you sure? You don't have to, it is completely up to you."
"Yeah, I'm sure"
"Okay, then we'll wait for Hadley to wake up and I'll talk it through with her and that will happen"
