You've been assigned the bedroom on the second floor, and Erwin is in the master on the first. Your clothes have already been situated in the wardrobe, and your toiletries sorted in the bathroom. Settled, you decide to return downstairs and receive orders.
Whether or not you'll follow them, you're still deciding.
Erwin's not in the living room that's at the base of the stairs, nor in the kitchen area across from it. He's likely still in his bedroom, at the end of the hall. That daunting hallway looks like a gaping mouth, the entrance to the den where the sleeping beast waits.
If you awaken that beast, the result is unimaginable. The mere thought is enough to send a shiver down your spine.
And as he emerges, his presence reminds you of the remarkable force you're throwing yourself at. He's huge, and smart, and intimidating as hell.
Your mental Levi urges you to stand your ground. Don't falter just because he's Erwin. Swallowing, you plant your feet and nod to the leader.
"Commander."
"Erwin is fine. There truly is nobody here to witness you now."
"Okay." You step aside so he can pass by you to the living room. "It is just us two out here, huh?"
"Yes." Erwin circles the couch and arrives at the fireplace it faces.
"For how long?"
"Until the situation is resolved. Shouldn't be more than a few days."
That vague time frame is concerning. You're not given a clear picture of how long you have, thus unable to determine a good pace. Left to hope you'll have enough time to draw out his temper, you silently wish the citizens will be just a bit more chaotic than usual.
"Alright," you respond. "Anything you need me to get done?"
Erwin examines the brick fireplace, then the empty log rack beside it. "We'll need fuel before nighttime comes." He gestures to the front door. "There should be cut wood out by the shed."
"Right." You're quick in vacating, having already plotted a rebellious scheme and anxious to act it out. "I'm on it, Erwin," is all you say as you fling the door open and head outside.
You close the door, then step down from the porch. Following the perimeter of the house, you find the weather-beaten shed and circle it, disappearing behind it and obscuring yourself from the view of the house's windows. You're hidden, if Erwin happens to be watching.
Indeed, against the outer wall of the shed is an iron log carrier stacked with timber. Whoever prepared this shelter for you two made sure to cover all bases. It's kind of them, really.
That kindness will be wasted since you're here, though. You look over the carrier, acknowledging that yes, there is cut wood by the shed. That much is true.
But you weren't told to do anything with it. Satisfied, you turn on your heels and make your way back to the house, abandoning the logs.
Erwin has already vanished when you return inside. He's likely busy with paperwork, as to be expected. Shrugging, you head to the kitchen and search for something to eat.
The cupboards are stocked, too. There's vegetables and grain foods to feed a family—it's more than enough for you both. This retreat is beginning to feel more like a vacation every second.
Erwin must realize that. He's probably looking to have some fun in this privacy, finishing paperwork by day and pampering his princess by night. Hell, he might be scrambling to get his work done so his schedule will be free.
