"Hand over the keys."
Maya stood next to the gas pump with her hand out. We were exactly halfway home, and now it was Maya's turn to drive, and I was not excited.
She wasn't a bad driver per se; I was just better. Plus, I enjoy driving us around.
"Be careful with her," I said reluctantly dropping my keys in her hand. We'd stopped at a gas station to fill up and stretch our legs. As I pumped the gas I thought about making a last-ditch effort to convince her to let me drive the rest of the way. When she got out of the car with her outstretched hand I knew there was no arguing with her.
Maya rolled her eyes at me. "Your gas-guzzling SUV is in great hands."
I was feeling much better today, and just in time for us to head home.
We left the hotel at nine a.m sharp. Savannah met us in the lobby with bells on, she looked like a polished trophy in her gold sweater dress. She sent us off with a warm smile.
"Have a safe journey home." She handed each of us one of her business cards for any Ainsworth Delux reservations we wanted to make in the future. Apparently, she's over more than this location. Savannah can book at us at any location all over the world. "I hope we'll see each other again very soon."
At first, using my Ainsworth advantage made me sick to my stomach then I saw the look of terror on Maya's face at that disgusting Airbnb and I vowed never to have her in a place like that again. Keeping Maya safe is my top priority and Ainsworth Hotels on top of being incredibly luxurious, are safe.
So I was cashing in on my right to use all the Ainsworth hotels, resorts, and spas all over the globe. I mean what's the point in having this last name if I'm not using it for all its worth?
Maya huffed in the driver's seat. "Why do you have such long legs?"
"I don't know, babe," I replied, "God just made me that way."
"Well, I wish they would have spread the wealth. It would make my life a lot easier." And mine too. I'm constantly having to get things off high shelves for her. Not that I mind, I think her short legs are adorable.
I found myself tensing up as she pulled onto the road. I promised to keep all my comments to myself, and I planned to keep it because three hours of the silent treatment sounds like hell. I will admit she looked pretty cute peering over the wheel in her white puffer coat. My sweet little marshmallow.
I wouldn't tell her as much or else she might smack me.
"God, Nick, could you grip onto the door any harder." We drove through a small back country town as we headed toward the highway. The roads were surprisingly clear, it was just us and a semi-truck far up ahead.
Releasing the door handle, I replied, "Sorry, it's a reflex." I do not like being driven around. It makes me feel out of control.
"Are you nervous?" she asked, glancing over at me.
"No," I lied.
"Are you lying to me?"
Yes.
"No."
Suddenly she slammed on the brakes making me lurch forward. "Maya!" I clutched my hand to my chest. My heart threatened to beat out of my chest. I had to take a deep breath. She was going to give me a heart attack.
"Are you nervous now?" she asked with a raised brow. Oh, she thought this was funny.
"Maya, that was not funny," I griped. "You could have caused an accident."
