There lived a kingdom. Past the stretches of dunes. Planted square where the sun's rays shone the strongest. Although the royal family was in the deemed happiest place on earth, they were not pure of this essence. Filled with greed, jealousy and pride, these were what the kingdom strived on. Yet a young girl, not past 17, saw past the facade and vowed to bring justice to her family who'd been pushed down because of the royal family. She planned to infiltrate the castle on the night of the biggest celebration and steal the family's source of wealth. It was rumoured to be something with the manner of a python. Either way she'd find it and take it. It was too easy though. She'd slipped into the room met with what they called the epitome of destruction. The minute her eyes saw it, her soul had darkened. Struck with everything that the kingdom thrived on. She stumbled back. A smile on her face, her body ridden of all the happy memories, the strain of mundanity, everything that made her human. She'd fallen one with the kingdom she vowed to destroy.
Yet that was not the performance Tanja had been forced to watch that evening. She sighed, focusing her view on the lit stage. It echoed with the sonder of what once was. Her eyes locked on the main performer. Her body spoke for the woman who thrived on deceit. Her costume red, tight on her figure. Her steps reaching, as they bounced one by one in the air. The piano running after her. Each step fast paced and eager for the next. The tune was sharp and heavy, contrasting the elegance she held. Her skirt spinning as she jumped into the air. Her arms pulling in and pushing out. Three dancers reaching for her. The violin broke in as her movements grew sloppy. Struck with anger and impatience. Her body rattling as she leaped into the sky. Her arms wailed out as her smile widened. The piano and violin battled. Music too her ears. She was propelled into the air, a star in the desolate night sky. The piano and the violin eased, staccato strokes as she was caught mid-air. She turned a rose in her mouth. She bent her head back. The stage stood still, heaving with the performers. The piano and violin faded out.
The hall erupted with loud claps. The skies rained with roses and cheers. She returned to the ground with a wide grin. Its cracks laced with a condescending edge. A smile Tanja knew all too well. Tanja bowed and threw a rose at her bowing figure. She faced her with a bright smile, which Tanja did not return.
Tanja wiped under her nose and walked out the hall. Pushing past the bustles of proud families. She raced past them, her breaths hitching. Call her jealous, if you will. Tanja wouldn't deny it. Yet she knew the pulsing void scarred in her wasn't caused by the green-eyed monster. Her steps eased at the crash of the wind on her clammy face. She turned her head, eyes locked on her mom's car. Her steps advancing to it. Arms clenching her stomach silent.
"Where are you going?"
Tanja held her body tighter.
"Neveah, I'm talking to you,'' her mother's scratchy voice boomed.
