Mike sat in the basement that night, scribbling away in his notebook. The plan was forming, and it was his way out of Hawkins.
Except, there were a few issues.
The first, the obvious one, is that he needed a job. Which, he did not have yet.
The second, less obvious one, is that he couldn't stop thinking of Will. Why Will? He didn't know. All Mike knew is that he needed to stop before he formed a connection with Will and couldn't leave.
Because he had to leave.
As soon as he could.
_______________________________________________Will sat in front of him for the third time the next day. And this time, Mike spoke first.
"Why do you seem so interested in me?"
He'd asked Will, with a neutral tone.
"You seem like a person to be interested in."
That barely made sense. What was so interesting about Mike?
"What's interesting about me, then?"
"Like I said, you seem interesting. I don't know why."
Mike had an idea.
Maybe Will could help him get closer to his goal.
"Do you know anywhere that has job openings?"
"Is this for your running away plan?"
Mike stayed quiet for a moment, before answering.
"You weren't supposed to know about it, but I dropped it anyways."
Will sighed.
"The video store is really understaffed. I go there a lot, and I would work there but I'm too busy."
"The video store?"
Will nodded.
"I know a few people who work there, if you need some help getting a job. We could run by after school."
The words didn't go to Mike's brain, at least not the last part.
"What?"
"We could run by the video store after school. They'll help you."
Mike thought for a moment.
"Sure."
