After three weeks of rehab, Qrow Branwen is so ready to go home. He felt like he was in h*ll, he hated the place; but he had to be there...or else he was going to lose his job. Being a detective meant everything to Qrow, he wouldn't know what to do with himself if he wasn't. Qrow was determined to stay sober, not just to keep his job, but also for the sake of the only family he has. He needed to be a better role model for his nieces; especially Ruby, who, for some odd reason completely lost to Qrow, greatly admires him.
"You didn't have to pick me up, Tai. I could've just called an uber." Qrow said getting into the passenger seat of Tai's car.
"It's no problem at all, pal. Besides, you're staying with me and the girls until further notice." replied Tai starting the engine.
He pulls out of the parking lot and heads home. The car ride was pretty silent, until Qrow broke the silence.
"You...don't trust me to be alone...do you?" Qrow asked frowning.
"No, Qrow, that's not true. The girls and I just want to help you, cause that's what family does. I mean, where else are you going to live? You were evicted from your apartment for drunk and disorderly conduct...I'm just glad you were lucky enough to not lose your job, or worse, end up in jail." Tai answered.
"Pfft, lucky? You know d*mn well that there is no such thing as good luck...at least not for me anyway." grumbled Qrow, rolling his eyes.
For the rest of the way home, Qrow just looks out the window, not saying a word. When they get home, Qrow gets out of the car first.
"Qrow..." Tai said from behind as they walked towards the house.
"What?" replied Qrow, turning around.
The second he turns around, he is met with arms wrapping around him in a gentle hug.
"This family has been through a lot over the years...but we've got through it because we stood by each other. So please let us help you, Qrow. We all love and care about you, don't forget that." Tai said hugging his best friend.
The dark haired man pats his friend's back, smiling slightly.
"I know, Tai. Thanks, buddy." Qrow said pulling out of the hug.
Entering the house, the detective is greeted by Ruby, Yang, and Yang's girlfriend, Blake, shouting "surprise!". The living room was decorated with colorful streamers and a banner that said, Welcome Home Uncle Qrow. Ruby bounds up to her uncle and gives him a big hug.
"I missed you, Uncle Qrow." Ruby said.
"Me too." Yang added, joining in on the hug. Blake also gets in on the group hug.
"I missed you kids, too." Qrow chuckled hugging the girls back.
He puts his things in the spare room and comes back into the living room. There, the girls had set up a little party of sorts; with snacks, sweets, and soda. Ruby even made chocolate chip cookies from her mother's, Summer's, recipe. For the first time in three weeks, Qrow felt...comfortable, he didn't feel pathetic.
Though, when night came, Qrow found it hard to sleep. All his fears and insecurities kept him tossing and turning. That little voice in the back of his head, that always pointed out everything that was wrong about him, screamed at him that he'll always be a useless, drunk piece of sh*t. God, did he want a drink...but he couldn't do that, he couldn't ruin so much progress. Then he starts having a panic attack, whether it's stress induced or withdrawal induced, he's not sure of.
"Uncle Qrow?" said a soft little voice.
Qrow looks towards the door and sees Ruby poking her head in.
