Shellington knew most people were like Tweak when it came to science, and would slump in their chair, roll their eyes, and groan at the mention of quantum physics, but it didn't change anything for him.
He'd been regarded as a 'nerd' since his days in elementary school, and had worn that title proudly. Even now, he stood a big straighter whenever someone commented on his love for science, but he wasn't stupid. Shellington knew they weren't complimenting him. He never minded though. It meant that they acknowledged that he was good at science, and that mattered so much to him. Science made him feel worthy, and when he was told he was good at science, it felt as if he been handed a bar of gold.
But things were changing in his life now. The cosmos was shifting in a new pattern for him. Shellington beamed down at the little yellow bundle in his arms. Now, he had a new purpose. It was someone else's turn to give him a bar of gold, and he'd never let them go.
