Chapter 2: the nightmare

Distorted whispers and shadows circled around you, mocking and taunting you as you clutched the sides of your head in an excruciating agony.
The shadows took forms of people long forgotten, their faces static and blurred yet you could sense the malice and hatred in their presence.
You could feel the piercing gaze of hundreds of vengeful beings that plauge your mind.
They were screaming words like "MONSTER !", "MURDERER!", "FREAK!" and "ITS ALL YOUR FAULT! THEY'RE DEAD BECAUSE OF YOU!!".
You don't know what happened for things to be like this but it felt like the weight of hundreds were suffocating you making it impossible to breath.

Your eyesight started to blur as the tears welled up in your eyes. Suddenly a young boy crouched down infront of you, his face blurred and fractured except for his smile. You could just about make out his hair colour, it was soft, shiny black and long, really long. Almost reaching his waist long.

The boy suddenly spoke "Shhh... don't worry. You don't have to be afraid anymore..." he stopped.
You feel his icy cold hands over your closed eyes and forehead. "Wake up Y/n... WAKE UP! WAKE UP DAMMIT!!!"

You jolt awake from the shock of your nightmare only to see a concerned Capitano sitting next to you.

"Wha-what happened?" you asked groggily while wiping your sweat covered brow still in shock from your nightmare.
"You started screaming and yelling in your sleep. Everyone was quite spooked, not to mention you also are running a fever." Capitano explained. " Are you sure your ok?" He questioned as you wiped the tears that pricked at your eyes.

"Its nothing. " you denied. " just a bad dream thats all...". You visibly shivered as you recalled the unpleasant dream that you experienced. Glancing up, you noticed that half of the soldiers in the camp were standing at the entrance of your tent staring at you with concern and curiosity. The mage girl was in front of them all looking the most worried of them all.

"Ok everyone, lets give Y/n some space."
She announced, attempting to push the others out of the tent. After the others left, Capitano stood up and made his way towards the tents exit. He turned back to look at you and said " come out when your ready. The others have made breakfast if you wish to join us."
With that he left you alone sitting in your tent.
You hastily grabbed your sword, placing it back on your hip where it belonged. As you stepped out of your tent you threw on your coat and walked over to the campfire where everyone else was gathered for breakfast.

"HEY Y/N!!! OVER HERE, THERE'S A SPARE SPACE OVER HERE" The mossy haired girl called out, waving at you to go over to her.

As you sat down in the seat she saved for you, the mage girl bombarded you with questions and information.
"So where are you planning on heading? Where are you from? How old are you? What-" she was cut off by a pyro agent hitting over the back of her head.

"Stop bombarding the woman with questions Anita. You know no one can keep up with all your questions, cut her some slack for tsaritsa's sake" the agent grumbled as he sighed deeply and chomped down on a protein bar.
"Sorry Conrad..." Anita whined, rubbing the back of her head in pain.

You chuckled as you watched the two soldiers bickering between eachother like old friends.

"Sooo... where are you planning on going?" Anita asked as she returned her  attention to you.
" about that... I don't know. I don't even know where I am or how I got here." You responded as you looked into your bowl of beef stew.

" Ooh... I have an idea! How about you join us and the fatui? The pay is good and we often get to travel the world! So how about it?" Anita chirped cheerfully at you.

You thought about her offer for a moment.  It wasn't a bad offer seeing as you didn't really have anything to lose and from what you've seen, the fatui didn't seem like a bad bunch.

"I will take you up on that offer" you announced, making Anita jump out of her seat in glee.

"I'll tell the captain right away then!"she  squealed and with that she ran off to tell her captain the news.
