Diana enters her apartment after a long day with Patrick. Putting down her bags the only thing she wants to do now soak in the tub.
She enters the kitchen to peruse the fridge for a quick bite to eat before she takes her bath. Just then her roommate Virginia enters.
"Hey Duch, was your day?" Virginia asks taking a glass out of the cupboard.
"Busy, Patrick wanted to play a lot today," Diana replies closing the fridge.
"You look exhausted," Virginia says opening the fridge and pouring herself a glass of juice.
"I am. I just want to soak in the tub," Diana replies before heading to her room, she'll just order out tonight.
As she takes her stockings off Virginia comes to the door.
"So Duch, I heard from one of my colleagues that Prince Charles is looking for a new nanny."
"Oh really? I wonder what happened to the last one," Diana replies as she takes off her sweater.
"I don't know, but the palace has announced he is looking for one to start as soon as possible. I think you would be the perfect candidate," Virginia says taking a seat at Diana's desk.
"I don't think so. I'm sure he's looking for someone with a lot more experience," Diana says as she steps into her closet to change her robe.
"Diana you're exactly what he is looking for. You're great with children. You have that special touch," Virginia replies.
"I don't know, he'll probably receive thousands of applications. Mine will probably get lost."
"Don't count yourself out, Diana. I think you should throw your hat in the ring beside you never know," Virginia says walking out.
Diana sighs, she already has enough on her plate as it is. She's with Patrick five days a week and teaches dance in between. Being a nanny to the future heirs to the throne sounds like she wouldn't have much time to herself. Like she said earlier she knows he wants someone experienced. Yet she still shouldn't count herself out completely.
Diana heads to the bathroom and takes her bath before ordering her dinner. After her dinner arrives, she reads another one of her Barbara Cartland books before going to sleep.
The next day, Diana is asked to meet with Patrick's parents in their study. The last time she had a meeting with Patrick's parents, she got a pay increase.
She hands the maid her jacket and goes straight to the study. She knocks on the door and enters when she is told to.
"Good morning," Diana says.
"Good morning Diana," Albert and Mary say motioning for Diana to take a seat.
Diana sits down and Mary begins. "Diana we just want to say you are doing an excellent job with Patrick."
"Thank you."
"Which makes this, even more, harder to tell you. Unfortunately, my post here is ending sooner than I expected. We will be returning to the US at the end of the month."
Diana looks at them, she can't believe they're going back so soon. She knew their time here in England was on a time frame. However, she understood they wouldn't be returning for another year.
"We do have some good news," Mary continues, "it is to our understanding the Prince of Wales is looking for a new nanny. Thanks to Albert's connections, we were able to secure you an interview with the Prince tomorrow."
"Oh," is all Diana can say.
"I've assured the Prince's secretary that you would be the best choice for the Princes. You're excellent with Patrick, and I hate that our time here is being cut short. I wanted to make sure you would be taken care of."
