Song of the Chapter: Used to love by Martin Garrix and & Dean Lewis
-------------------------------------------------------
Aimee's POV
"I'm so impressed with you." Martin Garrix says to me, as we're trying to come up with some lyrics for our song. "You had a huge fever two days ago and were performing yesterday. I had expected you to cancel this to take some extra rest."
"Thanks, just don't tell Lando that." I say, thinking about how I've been telling Lando that all I had was a cold. While it was a full blown flu. Knowing him a bit by now, he would've panicked and told me to cancel the shows if he knew. The same way he had to sit out the race earlier this month.
"I won't, don't worry." Martin says as we're going back to work. Still speaking English to one another, even if Dutch is both our native tongues. Trying to write a song in English and conversing in Dutch is not something that works well. Not for me at least.
As we're laughing together, I notice Martin's manager making a video of us. I had agreed that footage of us working could be placed on social media, after approval by Ava. And as I see Martin's manager conversing with Ava, I'm convinced this might end up on Instagram.
As I get off the stage later that night, I grab for my phone, hoping Lando would call. But it is the middle of the night in Monaco, so I don't really expect it. He needs his beauty sleep as well.
When I've been off the stage for an hour and Lando still hasn't called, I give up. Packing my bag and leaving the arena along side Ava. Honestly, I'm not even sad Lando hasn't called. He had texted me goodnight, while I was on stage so I take it he just went to bed. Which is his good right, because he's multiple hours ahead of you.
"Just to be clear," Ava says as we get into the car to the hotel. "Rumours of you and Martin dating are once again alive."
"Good," I say. "Then they're off mine and Lando's back for a bit." Happy that my secret plan had helped a bit. I can't help the nagging feeling in my stomach though, maybe I should've told Lando about this. I mean it's in his best interest too if we keep the media attention to a minimum. Maybe I should've kept him in the loop on my plans.
When I wake up the next morning, my body is finally feeling a bit more like itself. Relieved that I have finally gotten rid of the flu-like feeling, I grab my phone to see it's already passed midday. Multiple missed calls from Lando and text messages, telling me he wants to talk to me, on my screen.
I don't even get ready first, I just press call immediately. Lando answering almost right away.
"I'm sorry, Lan. I was sleeping." I say, knowing very well that'll probably all be about the videos of me and Martin.
"It's okay, I just wanted to hear from you." He says, looking almost desperate.
"I know." I say, looking for words. "I made Martin post the videos so we'd get the media hype off of us for a bit. There's nothing going on, just good friends."
A smile forms on Lando's face. "Thank god, I was just worried a bit." He says honestly, his expression relaxing slightly. We talk a bit more, catching up a bit as we hadn't really done that properly the last week. As I had been struggling with my health, prioritising sleep over anything else.
I had seen the messages and calls, that I had not answered and even Ava told me that he had been trying to keep updated on my condition as much as possible.
I then decide it's time to pack my bags. Knowing we'd be leaving for Daytona tonight. I say my goodbyes to Lando, noticing it's dark out in Monaco. But right before I get my to hang up, Lando informs me I have to check out the Daytona track. Explaining that he'd driven the 24 hour race at Daytona there in 2018. I tell him I will if the schedule checks out, knowing very much how that I need to strengthen myself again. Unsure of how much time and energy I've got for sightseeing, if I want to keep my body health.
I was dead tired after the concert last night. My stamina completely shattered by the flu that had been bothering me.
***
"Are you ready?" Tony asks, as we're standing in a dance studio on Wednesday evening. Trying to get one more work out in before the concert on Thursday, before moving to Charleston for a concert on Saturday.
"As ready as I'll ever be." I say, tightening my ponytail.
"Alright, we'll start with a little jog then." He says as we're starting to jog from one side of the huge dance studio to the other. We take ten minutes calmly jogging, before going into some abs and core exercises. We finish it off with a high speed part of the set list, ending with some stretches as a cool down.
When we get back to the hotel room, it's only ten. I quickly get into the shower, hoping Lando will call me after he arrived to his hotel in Sao Paolo as well.
Getting out of the shower, I put on some sweats and a loose tee grab my laptop and sit down on my bed. I grab my phone checking my messages, nothing yet. I decide to text him, knowing from his stories arrival days are often a bit hectic.
Aimee:
Hi Lan! Have you landed yet?I put the phone down, not wanting to call him or anything yet, starting up Netflix deciding on the first Hunger Games movie. Really craving some time away from reality.
The getting away from reality part worked really well, as I fell asleep during the movie. Waking up to my laptop on standby, I close it. Getting up to get changed into something proper, knowing I've got to do an interview this afternoon before the concert.
When I get out of the bathroom, I notice there still isn't any news from Lando. That doesn't seem like him, he's usually very quick with his replies. Having watched some Quadrant videos, I know that the guy is practically glued to his phone. This really isn't like him.
I decide to give him time. Maybe his phone died during the flight. Maybe something else happened which made him unable to communicate with me. It'll probably be nothing.
I'm drawn out of my thoughts by a knock on my door, Ava standing in the hallway. "Ready for the interview?" She asks.
"Yes, let me get my stuff and we can get going." I tell her. Walking back into my room, collecting my necessities before leaving the room. Closing the door behind me.
