"i would love to write the story." i spoke before i could even think.
"are you sure?" he furrowed his eyebrows skeptically, as he held onto his papers. "not too long ago you were protesting the idea."
"yes, i know but i thought over it. if i do this story right.. it could bring a lot of attention towards my stance. it has a lot of benefits." i glanced at the window as i heard a tapping noise.
"mhm, but what about the devil part. seemed you despised that part the most." he chuckled
"yes but.." i glanced at the window again before glancing back at him, tilting my head in the process. "do you not hear that tapping noise?"
"what tapping noise?" he followed my line of vision.
"nothing." i shook it off. maybe it was just a bird. his office was at least a dozen floors up.
"as i was saying..." my eyes lingering on the window as the tapping gradually got louder.
"i've thought about it, and you were right. giving this story to someone else could ruin the intricacy. and in addition, i find her anecdote intriguing."
it couldn't have been a bird.
i dusted my skirt and walked towards the window. my curiousity threatening to spill, i couldn't contain it.
"intriguing? how so?" he questioned, caressing his beard as his eyes followed my every movement.
"the simple fact that i've never heard a story like hers." i faced him, "i want to explore what thoughts infiltrated her mind as she committed her fall from grace."
"fall from grace?"
"yes." i assured. "you spoke of an evil entity, the devil? think of fall from grace as his fall from heaven; bygone of glory."
the tapping grew to an ear peircing extent forcing me to close my eyes in agony. but in a split second it ceased to exist.
"are you okay?" my boss walked up to me.
"yes, im fine." i half heartedly smile. but the truth was i wasn't fine. there was a stinging feeling creeping at the back of my head at the ringing.
"mileena, your ears are bleeding!" he stated, concern laced in his voice. i touched my ears and brung my wet finger in sight of my vision to see a red substance.
"are you sick? do you have some sort of cancer?" he placed his hands on the side of my arms, comforting me. "take the day off."
"no." i stated simply. i glanced at the window and spotted a crack. a crack that was not once there.
but the ringing in my ear kept me from thinking properly and once my eyes were open the crack disappeared.
what's happening to me?
"mileena. have you not heard a word i've said?" i shook my head.
"i'm sorry, what?"
"would you like me to take you to the hospital? injuries of this sort could be fatal. i suggest you take the day off, seriously. i care about your well being, you're my number one writer." he smiled.
it was a sweet gesture really, but i couldn't go home. i needed to begin my case, even if it meant i had to put my aching headache to the side.
i knew what i had to do..
"im fine. just give me a second."
i walked to the restroom to compose my self. i stared at my reflection caressing certain hairs behind my ear.
