END OF FLASHBACK

I laughed sadly as I remembered the event like it had happened yesterday.

I took another glance at my body, the doctors were preparing me for CS, I had not put to birth when I had died.

I looked at my pitiable self, tears threatening to fall down from my face. I stopped fighting them and broke into tears. The gravity of what had happened just really dawned on me. I was dead. Gone from the world never to been seen or heard from again. I saw my mother being led out of the operating room and I remembered what she had sacrified for me.

FLASHBACK

It's been two weeks since I found out about my pregnancy. I hadn't told anyone about it. I was currently in my parents house, I was planning on telling them about my pregnancy.

I went to the sitting room and saw my parents watching the live Sunday program on Dove TV.

I greeted them and without beating around the bush I said " Mum, Dad, I have something I want to discuss with you"

" What is it my dear " my mom said facing  me.

I sat down and asked that they lowered the voice of the Television as it was important.

I calmed my self down and broke the news them.

My mom shouted 'Jesus' about three times and started crying.

" Can you see Iya Yemi, the disgrace your daughter brought upon us" My Dad said.

Typical African mentality. The good child is for the father while the bad one is for the Mother.

My Dad left the house that day and he never came back.

My mom stood with me throughout the nine months I was pregnant. Most of our income came for my Dad so it was a huge blow when he left.

Of course she was very angry with me at first, but when I explained what had happened to her she sympathised with me.

We tried to get in contact with Yomi but it was a fruitless search. I even went to his apartment in Lagos but he and his friends already vacated the house.

All was going fairly well until the day my mom fell sick. I was about 6 months pregnant then. I had to work menial jobs in order to make ends meet.

I was doing about three to four odd jobs at once. All the stress took a toll on me and one day when I was working at one of my jobs I fainted.

The doctor said I almost had a miscarriage and I was advised not to engage in any stressful activities.

Luckily my mom bounced back and I quit my jobs.

END OF FLASHBACK

As I remembered these I rushed to follow her, but I couldn't, like what happened when I tried to go back into my body.

I got lost in my thoughts and what brought me back was the sound of my baby cries. The nurses cut the umbilical cord and I heard the doctor tell the nurse that they should take her to the pediatrician.

I started panicking, I knew I got pregnant at a young age but I had bonded with my daughter during my pregnancy days.

I remember when I found out her gender, it was one of the best days of my life. I remember showing everyone the picture of the ultrasound scan.

I didn't even know if she was okay or not, but I knew I had to do something. I tried leaving but all my trials were in vain.

I put in my all, I tried fighting the unknown and unseen boundary. I had one goal in mind, I had to get to my baby. I stopped when I heard one of the nurses say " Doctor, the patient, we've got a heartbeat "

That was all I remembered before I was once again shrouded with darkness.
