Chapter 2:
*Chanelle's Point of View*
I sat next to Korbin's hospital bed just staring at him as he lied there motionless. The constant beeping of the heart monitor was my only hope because it kept me alert. I stared at the heart monitor hoping and praying to God that it didn't make a straight line. The mountain peaks were helping me more than it was helping the doctor.
There was a knock on the door, and I turned to fine the doctor standing there holding his clipboard. It was Korbin's usual doctor. "Hey Doctor." I said softly looking over at Korbin, who had tubes and a lot of stuff on his body.
"How are you?" He asked.
"I'm fine, how is he?" I asked.
He took a deep breath and sighed shaking his head. "He's in critical condition. He's been overworking himself." He said.
"How? He's been playing football almost all of his life. You're telling me that it's just now catching up with him?" I asked.
He shook his head. "No, but I will say that he cannot step another foot on the football field or in the gym until he gets better or else he'll be pushing himself closer to death." He said.
"Doctor, if you don't mind me asking, what's wrong with him?"
Quickly, I saw his facial expression change as if he were hiding something. "I'm not at liberty to discuss this matter with you, Ms. Badeau. Korbin is the only one that can tell you what's wrong, and that's a request directly from his mouth. I can't say anything to anyone, not even his mother." He said.
"This man is lying here and I'm clueless. I need answers!" I fussed at him. I knew Korbin was sick, but the doctor was scaring me really bad right now.
"Look, I would tell you if I could, but I'm under orders that I cannot tell anyone." He said.
I stood up from my chair and walked to be face to face with the doctor. Thank God for heels because if I wasn't wearing them, I would be shorter than him. "Tell me! Now you're under orders to tell me what's his problem." I said.
The doctor took as deep breath and then looked out into the hallway of the hospital making sure no one was watching. He closed the door behind him as if he was holding some really juicy information. "When I say this, you can't tell anyone that I told you, okay? I could lose my job." He whispered harshly.
I crossed my arms over my chest waiting for my answer. "You have my word, now spill it." I said.
"Korbin is fighting a disease that's slowly killing him on the inside out. He's been refusing treatment for awhile now. The chances of his living is less than 25% if he continues playing sports and working out without getting his treatment. If he slows himself down, it's a 35% chance of living. I've been warning him, but—"
He was interrupted by a knock on the door. He opened the door and at the door stood Natalia. Her hands were on her hips and she looked really pissed. "I think you two need some alone time, I'll be going." The doctor quickly rushed away because he knew I was going to stop him so he could continue telling me what was going on.
"What are you doing here, Natalia?" I asked.
"I should be asking you that." She cut her eyes over to Korbin and then to me. "I thought y'all were done."
"Yeah Natalia, me and Korbin were totally just fucking in his hospital bed while he was in a coma." I said sarcastically rolling my eyes.
"You need to let him go if you're going to be with me." She said.
"Natalia, I like women." I said.
"Last time I checked, you told me that you liked them all." Right now, she was radiating with a stank attitude.
"Where are my kids?" I asked with an attitude also.
"They're with Sharon and Nick. Why are you here? You and Korbin are through." She said.
Before I could say anything else, I heard heels clicking quickly towards the room. Natalia and I turned our attention to the woman wearing a red dress and black pumps both made by Prada. It's true, the Devil does where Prada.
I narrowed my eyes as I made eye contact with Mia. That bitch is back, and I personally don't believe that she has changed. I think she's just putting up a front.
She grinned a wide grin, that I could sworn was fake. "Hey girl."
(Yes this chapter was short only because I was being rushed. SORRY!)
