Prologue:

Students rushed toward the gymnasium under the heat of the day. "They're winning the game," they were saying. "Our basketball team's looking like they're fighting against a bunch of nursery kids!" "We'll win for sure!" "They're so strong!" Girls giggled and rooted for the varsity players they adored. Boys shouted the name of their school as loudly as they could. "Teiko! Teiko!" The cheers seemed endless.

Risa Mikaela couldn't help but stop by the doors of the packed gymnasium, hands occupied, trying to balance the stack of posters and pamphlets promoting the works of her club. One eager student bumped her shoulder, almost knocking her off. She was about to say something when her thoughts got occupied by the even louder roar from the crowd. Looking at the center of the gym, she watched how the monstrous strength of their basketball team's regulars--all composed of second-year students--led Teiko to another total victory.

A dark blue-haired, tanned player rushed toward their hoop, dribbling the ball with unmatched agility. His opponents couldn't even move, reduced to merely standing like mannequins as the boy slammed the ball with a dunk. Then, a boy in glasses scores a three-pointer while being too far from their hoop. Another Teiko player, too big and too skilled, made it almost impossible for their opponents to score.

The buzzer rang. The score was 163 to 47.

Her black eyes widened. It was the first time she had a close look at them. So these are the rumored Generation of Miracles--the school's emperor and his knights.

Chapter 1: "It's simple."

Skirt a little shorter than everyone else. Black hair cut just above the shoulders and parted on the left with a bunch of colorful, small clips. Lips dipped with gloss. And just the right amount of blush. Risa Mikaela zipped close her makeup kit as she looked at herself in the mirror inside the restroom. A group of girls in the same uniform looked at her disdainfully as they whispered to each other. Mika knew who and what they were whispering about and she was already used to it. Actually, Mika was cute and she should've been among the popular ones. But she wasn't. Most of her schoolmates in Teiko Middle School were irked by her and even forced her to be one of the school's outcasts.

Don't mind. Don't mind.

She didn't even sigh. With her makeup kit in her hand, she exited the restroom with a smile. Never mind their rumors and whispers, today she was going to receive good news for the one thing that she loved the most--Shelter. And that was what's important. She was excited to see where the booth of their club would be assigned during the school festival. Somewhere in the square, she requested. Her club would do a mini-concert. How wonderful that would be!

Classes were long over but some students stayed for their club activities. For today, Mika went to one of the classrooms in the eastern wing to attend a meeting. All the seats inside the room easily got occupied. Students piled in to attend the discussion of the club heads and the entire student council for the upcoming event. Mika found a seat beside the open window at the back. Perfect, she thought.

In front of the room, sitting at the teacher's chair was the student council president, Akashi Seijuro. Although only in his second year, the red-haired teen was already the head of the student council and also the captain of Teiko Middle School's insanely strong basketball team. He was number one in their grade and arguably the most brilliant student in their school. Everybody respected him and looked up to him, including Mika. She didn't know him personally, however, even though they were in the same class. They had talked to each other but only a few times. Well, Mika seldom talked to her classmates anyway.
