Ashton's POV
"Ashton! Wake up, you don't want to be late for school!" I sat up, rubbing my eyes. "Ashton! Are you awake?"
I groaned. "Yes, Mary," I called. "I'm awake." I got out of and stretched, trying to get the sleep out of my system.
"Ashton, hurry up; You'll miss breakfast." Crap. I thought. I hated missing breakfast. I got dressed hurriedly in a Nirvana shirt and jeans with my pair of black Vans. I ran down the stairs, stopping by the bathroom and looked at my reflection. Nodding in approval, I continued to the kitchen.
"Am I in time?" I asked, sliding into a chair, a grin on my face.
Mary laughed at my actions. "You're such a kid sometimes, but you are in time. I just that so you would hurry," she said, smirking.
"You are evil," I said, laughing.
"Only to you." She placed a plate in front of me. I dug in straight away. Withing moments, my plate was empty. "How much food can you eat?" Mary asked. It was a good thing I got close with her fast.
"Hey, I'm a growing boy." I looked at her with a serious face. She chuckled and walked away. I stood up and placed my dishes in the sink. Mary walked in and handed me my backpack.
"Off to school, growing boy."
"Bye, Mary," I said, running the bus stop. Several minutes passed before the bus arrived. I quickly I found a seat near the back.
Soon, the bus arrived at my new school for the next ten months. I walked in the main doors as the bell rang.
"Crap," I muttered, running to my first class. I walked in as the teacher was calling out the register. He stopped talking and looked at me.
"Late on the first day?" He asked me. "Not off to a good start, Mr?"
"Irwin, sir. Ashton Irwin. I'm on exchange."
"Ah, that's right. Principal Sorensen told me about you.," he paused. "I'm Mr. Gilmore, welcome to U.S. History. You can sit to Miss. Beth." He pointed to a girl in the back corner with long dark hair, her nose buried in a book. I made my way to the desk as Mr. Gilmore continued continued with the register.
"Hello," I said, looking at her.
She looked up. "Hello," she replied, a smile spreading on her face. Gosh, I thought. She's really pretty.
"What are reading?" I asked, looking at her book. She picked it up and shared me the cover.
"Fault In Our Stars," she answered. I nodded. I'd heard of it, but hadn't read it.
"Is it good?"
"It's one of my favourites. I have read it more times than I can count. Have you read it?" I shook my head. "Well, then, I'll let you borrow my copy sometime. As long as you promise to take good care of it."
I smiled. "Sounds good. Mr. Gilmore said your name was Beth?"
"No. That's my last name. Everyone makes that mistake. My first name is Sarah," she said smiling at me. "What's yours?"
"Ashton."
"Ashton," she repeated. "And I believe your accent is Australian."
"Yeah, I moved here on exchange. I'm still trying to get used to the time difference." She smiled at that.
"I bet. How do you like it here?" Before I could answer, Mr. Gilmore cleared his throat.
"Alright, class," he announced, passing out papers. "You need to give these to your parents and have them sign it. You have to bring it back tomorrow if you want full points." He kept rambling, but I wasn't listening.
Somewhere in the back of my mind, I heard a bell ring and I slowly came back to reality.
"Ashton!" My head snapped up and I noticed everyone was gone. "Ashton."
"What?" I looked at the door to see Sarah standing there, laughing. I stood up and joined her. "You called?"
Sarah nodded. "What class do you have next?" I looked at my timetable.
"Creative Writing with Mr. Davis." I looked at her. She smiled.
"I have the same class. Follow me." She started walking down the hallway. She stopped at a room at the end of the hallway. I walked in and stared at the walls in awe. Sarah walked in after and looked at me in amusement. "Pretty cool, huh?"
"Cool? I think I found my favourite teacher." The walls were plastered with posters. There were Green Day posters, Pink Floyd, Bob Marley, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin,My Chemical Romance, Blink 182 any band you could imagine.
"Who are you?" Said a voice to my left. I looked over and saw a man wearing a grey sweater vest and glasses.
"I'm Ashton Irwin, sir"
"No need to be so formal, Ashton. This class is nearly all faun and games. Except for the writing assignments; which are still fun." He smiled. "You're the exchange student, right?"
I nodded.
"Alright. You sit in the corner. Sarah, you sit behind him." He turned to another student behind him.
"Come on," Sarah said, walking to our desks. Soon the class started.
"Okay, nerds and geeks. I am Mr. Davis. As you all know, at least I hope you know, this is a writing class. If for some reason you didn't know that, pay attention. You may not be prepared. We'll start today with a getting-to-know-you kind of thing. Everyone, you need to find one buddy and go over the questions on the board. If you have any questions, I'll be at my desk. Off you go."
I turned to Sarah. "Hey, buddy," I said, using the word Mr. Davis did.
"Hey, pal," Sarah, responded.
"Is that all I am to you? A pal?" I made a sad face.
Sarah laughed. "For now. We'll go over these questions and then we'll see if you are a buddy or not." She pulled out a paper and wrote her name on it. I did the same. She looked at the board and read out, "What is your full name?"
"Ashton Fletcher Irwin. Yours?"
"Sarah Jane Beth." I copied it down on my paper.
"Do you play any instruments?"
"Drums," I answered immediately. "You?"
"Piano." The questions continued, and before we knew it the bell rang.
"Put your papers in the basket on your way out. Have a good day, everyone!" Mr. Davis called. I gathered my things and followed Sarah to the door.
"So," I started. "Am I promoted to buddy?"
"Yes you are, Irwin. You are now my buddy," she replied, putting our papers in the basket.
"Yay!" I said excitedly. Sarah laughed.
"Are you always like this?" I shook my head.
"Not always. Anyways, I have maths next, with Mrs. Smith." Sarah looked at my timetable, studying it for a second.
"Okay, that's down the hall four doors. I'll see you later?"
I smiled. "Alright, buddy," I said walking to my next class.
**********
Okay. This chapter is kinda boring. Sorry for any mistakes. I just had to have Sarah and Ashton meet. Yes, the other boys are going to be in the story. Just not sure how to put them in yet. Especially since Ash is on exchange. We'll see.
You should totally read this recent one I've started. It's a Harry Styles Fanfic. It's good. It's called Finding Trust// Harry Styles. It's written by Janeere. I like it. It's really funny if you understand what it is. I hope you like it. Ta-ta! Love ya.
