A/N: Hey guys, his is Scarlette. you don't know me and tis is my first book here. these first chapters are more of a foreplay before we get to the magic shooting and punch throwing. please be patient with me. it'll all make sense at some point, trust me.

The cherry coloured sunset lit the sky beautifully. The perfect scenery for a family dinner on the roof top of the Gnah family mansion that was as old as the town's folk could remember. It was a special day since they had a new member joining the family. Not a baby but a nine year old.

The Gnah family was known through the country as one of the most powerful and richest people. They've produced the best actors, athletes and even a president at some point in time. Their heir or head had just as much power over a country as a king would over a kingdom.

"Settle down now kids. Your grand father has something to say." said Lawrence, the oldest son of the Gnah family.

"Anya, come on and join them." Louis, Lawrence's father and the current head of the Gnah family said to the girl who was standing at the balcony the whole time. She was talk for her age. Long black silky hair and white skin. She was pretty and yet she didn't smile one bit.

Anya made her way and sat amongst the other kids. They all stared quite a bit at her.

"Okay I'll start now." Louis said while adjusting in his seat." A man lived long ago, far before this house was built. He was a merchant. In those days they were diminished by many and considered as failures I'm life. The system at that time didn't favour the poor. They were even separate from the rest of the kingdom..."

"Gramps!" Kenny, Lawrence's son yelled out.

"Yes Kenny." Louis paused to listen.

"Your words are too big!" Kenny spoke out.

"Like which ones?"

"The one like...uhm...ma...march..."

"Merchant?"

"Yeah. It's so big, it could be longer than my age!" The crowd burst out in laughter after hearing that.

"Well how old are you?"

"Just ten. "Kenny replied as they Burst once more.

"I'll be sure to make it easy for you, okay?" Louis replied as Kenny nodded his head. "So now, right! The system was riged,  disorganized, which made life hard for the merchant, a treader at the time. One day, Gnah crossed the bridge. On his way across, he saw the King's mage cross to the village side but didn't mind much until he came back from his business. His house. Burnt to dust. The neighbors said it was the mage who did it. The merchant got so angry, he went after the mage and managed to kill him. The high authorities got word of this and summoned the merchant.

'You killed the King's best mage. What is your reason?' the authorities asked.

'He took all I had. He destroyed all I ever worked for.' the merchant replied.
'and you killed him?'

'you wouldn't understand why I did what I did. Your all the same. Rich and yet you want more power.' the merchant said,' I'll have you take what you want from me. I just want a new home.'

'What could a peasant possibly have that I want?'

'Power, I know how to make you a leader of this cursed system. Just give me a new home. 'the merchant was so convincing. One of the governors took him up on it an in no time, the king was over thrown. That governor gifted this very house to the merchant. Time passed and the merchant was o his death bed when he called for the current king.

'Before I killed the mage, he swore that my descendants will not be safe outside the boundaries of this kingdom. You have to promise, like your father did, to protect us as long as the Gnah name lives.' the king was conflicted.
Was it some sort of curse or a warning. Besides that, the merchant had a collection of gems. Gems he took from the mage. The had the power of all the earth elements. And two distinct ones of evil and good. The king took them in exchange for the request and that's how the King family and the Gnah family attained the relationship." Louis ended the story.

"Dad, you still suck at story telling." Lawrence told his father.

"At least Anya loved it." Louis shot back.

"You did not tell us this! You only say it now. Who is that kid anyway?" Caly, Louis' only daughter and second born yelled." Are you implying that this girl is more important than us?!"

"Have you always been important? I didn't notice." Lawrence picked up his wine glass, "I've never had a use for you so to be useful, make like a good girl and sit."

The crowd filled with giggles and whispers. That's when Kenny broke the ice why yet again another question.

"Why is Anya a king and yet she's a girl?"

Anya glared with a dark aura around her. She smacked Kenny's head really hard.

"It's not my title. It's my name silly." Anya said.

The audience went out laughing.

"Finally, someone put Larry's kid in line." Sean, Lawrence's younger brother and an identical twin, commented.

"At least my son has no failure for a father." Lawrence shot as the laughter intensified.

No one noticed it but Caly was quaking with anger. Caly called for her daughter, Stacy, and they left. She couldn't stand such gatherings.
On her way down the stairs, she met Leny who was heading to the roof top. Leny was Lawrence's wife. Also a woman out of Caly's league.

Leny gave Caly way and just before the mother daughter and mother duo was gone, Leny said. "I'm greatly sorry for Larry putting you in your place."Caly paused in her steps, "I hope you remember that the old man is still growing old. Please learn to swallow you words next time."

Before Caly could turn back and say something, Leny was long gone.
They were two different poles, Caly depended on the family while Leny needed no one to be at the top.

Anya's first day with the Gnahs went perfectly. There's no doubt, this was a true family.
