"(Y/N)! Wait!" Hiro grabbed your wrist, stopping you right at he doorway. "We're not supposed to leave!" You shot him a glare, wrenching your hand out of his grasp.

"Since when has that ever stopped you?" You retorted, setting a hand on your hip. Hiro didn't say anything, just stared at the ground. "That's what I thought," you muttered, walking the rest of the way out of the room, and down the stairs, Hiro trailing you begrudgingly.

Surprisingly, it wasn't hard to get a cab. You'd managed to pull one over as soon as you left the apartment, tell them your destination, and then you were off.

Hiro remained silent the whole ride, staring out the window, as if transfixed by something. You forced yourself to stay quiet, instead staring out your own window, watching as buildings lit up with multicolored lights flew past you in a blur.

A few blocks from your destination, however, the cab came to a sudden halt.

"You kids think ya can walk?" The cab driver asked apologetically. "This traffic continues on like this for a while." You nodded quickly, tearing the door open, and pushing out into the cold evening. Smoke billowed up from behind a few tall buildings, eventually dissipating high above the ground. Your eyes were already beginning to water, but you pulled your shirt up to cover your mouth and nose, and pressed on, pushing through the thick crowd of people. You only hoped Hiro was right behind you.

"(Y/N)!" You heard his faint call, but it was muffled, and you didn't look back.

The fiery building finally came into full view, and the smoke became almost unbearably thick, to the point where you were struggling to breathe. The perimeter had been taped off, and you stopped at the very edge of it, straining your neck to get a better look. There was a small, steady trickle of people flowing out of the two large double doors, and a few firefighters positioned around, guiding everyone to safety.

"(Y/N)!" A breathless Hiro appeared next to you a moment later. His hair was sticking up in all directions, and he was gasping so hard, he could barely speak. "Don't... run off... like that!" He made out, setting a hand on your shoulder.

"I can't see anything from here, I need to get closer," you told him quietly. Hiro just started at you wide-eyed.

"You're... kidding, right?" You furrowed your eyebrows.

"No, I need to find the man—" Hiro cut you off.

"Why are you so sure it's him that did this?" He exclaimed, throwing his hands up in exasperation. "It could have been an accident, maybe it was someone else." You honestly didn't know how you knew... you just did. It felt, kind of like it was tugging you — telling you to go and get a closer look.

"Come on," you moved through the growing crowd, this time, making sure Hiro was right next to you the whole time. Gradually, the cluster of people thinned, until you were back out onto the cool, empty streets.

"What now?" Hiro asked slowly, pulling you closer to him.

"I- I don't know," you stuttered. The desire to get closer was only growing, and now, the curiosity was too powerful. It was just a little nagging in the back of your mind — the man. It had to have something to do with the man. You just knew it. "I'm going to go ask the policeman what happened," you muttered, pointing to one of the officers standing just outside the chaos of the crowd. Hiro opened his mouth to speak, but you were already moving.

Then, a bang, hard against your skull, rattled your head, and you stopped in your tracks, dazed. The growing cacophony of street noises mixing with the yells of what might have been Hiro, and someone else surrounded you, adding to your dizziness. Your feet slipped out from under you, and you felt like you were... floating — or maybe flying.

        You'd always wanted to fly.

"(Y/N)!" One last shout, and you stayed conscious just long enough to register your boyfriend's scream, before you blacked out.
